Sounds more like the battery has a dead short across the cells. Mine suddenly packed up last year in the middle of a rally stage. I tried jump starting it several times but it wouldn't start. I managed to get it hone eventually but the battery was totally dead by the time I got home. It wasn't...
Try contacting Twingogeekio on here aka Karl Robertson at SMC Renault. He's always been very helpful when I've asked for information. Phone him direct 01483301009 at SMC. Tell him you're a member on here and he'll be glad to assist
It was great to meet everyone yesterday. A good result, well done to all the team. I'll have to get over to Llandow for one of the track days next year.
I've used mine in all weather and not had any problems. Went to Northumberland and back this week in all the rain and it never missed a beat as always. If it snows then just drive sensibly and don't brake suddenly.
Check the heat shields that go over the exhaust. The clips aren't that strong and may have have been pulled loose if you drove through deep water at any sort of speed.
Ditto. The dealer has to sort it. It could be the leads are breaking down slightly and tracking when it's damp. Mine always fires up first time and runs fine but I replaced the leads with some high performance ones a couple of years ago as the old ones were getting well past their best.
I've had French cars for the last 30 odd years, mostly Citroens which were quirky but great cars. My 172 is a Phase 1 and has been really reliable. I've had it 4 years now. It sits outside in all weathers and always starts first time no matter how long its been standing. It's done 127,000 miles...
I had a rear bearing fail on mine a few years ago. It was a new one as well. Had it replaced under warranty as it had only been done a couple of months before it started making a noise.
Think I'd replace the gaiter before the track day. Are you driving the car there or taking on a trailer ? If it splits and throws the grease out the joint could seize. I've not been to Bedford yet but it looks a very fast track. I've seen videos of cars seeing well over 100 mph on the longest...
Microfiber towels are the best thing I've come across for effective drying off. All the hand car wash places use them now instead of chamois leathers. They don't scratch and they can be easily washed when they become dirty. I've got loads of them now.
Probably best replacing the cables. Don't buy non genuine ones because they don't fit. One of mine snapped a few months ago. Tried fitting non genuine cables and they were too short.
I've been using DS2500's all round on mine and not had any issues with them. Using DOT5.1 fluid as well and braided lines and Brembo HC front discs. They don't squeal at all. They were recommended to me by Mark Fish a couple of years ago.
Mine has 127,000 miles on it now and still drives like new. If its serviced regularly high miles isn't an issue any more. Engines are built to much better tolerances now than they were many years ago and will easily take over 100,000 miles without problems.
If the insurance writes it off you could probably buy it back depending what category it is and repair it but you would have to get it checked at VOSA for vehicle identity. I did it with a Fiat I had before the Clio. It cost me more than the car was worth in the end.
About 3-4 bhp increase probably. That's all I got at RS Tuning but the fuelling is much smoother now after the remap and overall consumption is better on a decent run.
