    Little blue... Clio 182 AB

So I decided that I'd had enough with the UKs shitty weather and headed over to Ireland for a break at the in-laws place in Co. Sligo on the west coast. The roads out here have always amazed me and I enjoy a road trip, so I packed the Clio, filled the CD multi-changer, brimmed the tank and after...

    182_steve's FF 182 progress thread!

I'm personally thinking that when I'm on 205's I'll run a 5mm spacer on the back and a 16mm on the front to try and level it out. I'll keep my eyes on how yours turns out first :tongueclosed:

I spoke with Pure Motorsport earlier in the week, worth dropping them a call before you spend out on any engine bits tbh.

    182_steve's FF 182 progress thread!

I'm washing the car tomorrow so will take some photos then of Cup offset wheels with no spacers on a 182FF - they've got 195 45 R15s on them but I'm sure with some professional guesstimating we'll get there!

    DIY service book.

I know I'm "in the trade" but I've always kept an up to date spreadsheet of what's been done with a column for Date, Mileage, Who did the work (usually me) and also what was done. I've never struggled with it come sale time as I'll always take time to present my car for sale, my old MX5 sold for...

    K4M Rally Build

Will be interested to see how this turns out - I have a client who wants to get his son into rallying and I've always thought a little Clio would be a good shout

    182_steve's FF 182 progress thread!

I'll be interested to see your fitment with the new wheels on a FF - I've just got a set of Turinis for mine that I'll refurb and fit AD08Rs to in spring (came with 5mm of T1Rs on them that I will kill over winter). I like the whole OEM+ look/feel, there's something satisfying about the smaller...

    Dephaser solenoid

I'm saying that the timing could be wrong (and likely is) but if you want to check the solenoid that is how you should go about it.

    Smaller diameter crankshaft pulley?

Endurance racing is about finishing the race - how fast you are during that race is 2nd priority. Your initial question is the right one, but I'd look at running a PAS fluid cooler in-line to the rack - ThinkAutomotive sell a few different options. If there isn't a pulley available then look at...

    Dephaser solenoid

It's rare to have oil solenoids fail, best way to check it to to unplug it and measure the resistance across the terminals - nothing would show a fault and most oil solenoids have a resistance under 50Ohms [not sure about the Renault one, maybe someone else can chime in]. Renault specifically...

    Tom's 182 and 197

Really well written, I particularly love the bit about Scotland - I took my MK1 MX5 up and found it too compromised for the roads up there, the car was on coilovers and ITBs so was amazing at full chat BUT continually grounding it out became a real chore. IMO definitely a sign from the gods to...

    Little blue... Clio 182 AB

I've already got the valve springs, the camshaft seal kit, a water pump and various other bits including the keyed crank pulley from the Megane engine. I'm torn about removing the head from the "new" engine when it arrives. If I do then I'll likely fit replacement valves but I'll also have to...

    Little blue... Clio 182 AB

So a route for the car has arrived... I'll be sourcing a replacement 172/182 engine which will have the cams from this engine installed along with a new belt and dephaser, I'll do the swap in the new year once I return from Ireland and will do my best to photograph all the good bits along the...

[197] Check injection / injection fault.

Get it plugged in - the knock sensor fault OR the dephaser could do it. If the knock sensor is showing a fault it could actually be seeing knock though, which could be a badly flowing injector. I'd pull the plugs and see what state they're in initially, run your nail along the earth electrode to...

    Engine rebuild options...

I'm going to convert to standalone as part of a project for work, so the real question for me is about engine internal choice. I think I'm going to get hold of a stock 182 engine, fit ARPs, swap the cams over and install new belts, dephaser etc and spend a long day in the workshop changing...

    Engine rebuild options...

I've just had a peak and it's clear that where the lobe joins the shaft isn't a straight 90degree edge that the OEM cams would have (I guess with pushed on lobes). There's a radius down from the lobe to the main shaft, which is nice

Advice on where to go for diff install?

There's a box with Quaife already installed in the classifieds atm for £1k I think - well worth looking at that option + paying a local garage to do the work.

    Engine rebuild options...

I've not seen inside any other 182 oil caps so not sure what I'm looking for - sadly my eyesight isn't good enough to tell the lift & duration :tonguewink: Does the OEM camshaft have a part number cast into it like the Jap stuff usually does?

    Engine rebuild options...

Most probably cracked ring lands, the lean mixture is pretty horrible to see from my point of view - cringeworthy tbh... It has a receipt for the cams in the history file and even with compression like it has it still pulls away from a friends stock 182FF so I'm pretty confident on the cams are...

    Engine rebuild options...

So the 182 engine currently has bad compression on no2 & no4. The current engine has a set of Catcams 428s fitted along with a tune by a monkey. Do I swap a stock 172/182 engine in, installing the cams and a new belt etc. OR build a replacement engine using a 197 head, pistons & rods - selling...

    Little blue... Clio 182 AB

The DynaPack doesn't have the wheels installed as it bolts to the hubs, so it generally will read higher than an atw figure due to the tyre loss a roller dyno sees. It's surprisingly strong for a low-comp motor.

    Little blue... Clio 182 AB

It's been an interesting week spent mainly procrastinating about when/where to do the cambelt change. My usual work space when I'm here in Sussex currently has a Superformance Shelby Cobra sat waiting for it's wheels to come back from refurbishment and with the recent cold snap I'm not too...
