Fantastic shots Nick. Donington has probably the biggest difference between shooting trackside or public. It's (particularly now) an awful track to shoot from public positions, but the shots from trackside are always wonderful.
Saying that, the paddock shots are actually my favourite from...
Cheers mate, I've never been to an event held on the National, that's why it confused me. Only been to International (where there is no infield access outside of Club Straight) or the full GP. Do you have to walk all the way around to
National looks good for photos (International isn't...
Were you signed on? Some of the angles look impressive, I can never find half the places people shoot from at Silverstone, particularly on some of the smaller configurations which I assume this was on.
I love the group Truck shot, where was that taken?
Yes he was, but obviously with any impact it's going to flex a bit (to absorb the energy) which is what I imagine caught him, as you can see the armco pretty much returns to normal straight after the impact. You have to be mighty stupid to stand on the exit of a known-dangerous corner in a 4ft...
I'm pretty sure Combe (and most circuits) don't allow photographers in front of catch fencing, will be interesting to see what happens with this as there is clearly a media access hole in the fence right behind them.
Depends really. Nikon ones are about £250 new. I got my Sigma one for £75. I've owned both the Nikon and Sigma ones and to be honest there isn't much in it.
Depends on the lens you are using it with though, for a 2.0x TC you need a constant aperture f2.8 lens for it to work properly, as that...
Yep it was Chavfest.
Instant blindness ftw?! ;)
Planes is a good idea, we have Lyneham and Salisbury Plain nearby so always have Hercules, Galaxys and Apaches passing over the house. Birds sound tricky (both kinds)
I picked up a cheap (second-hand, of course) 2.0x Sigma Teleconverter recently for my Sigma 120-300. I had heard it reduced quality a bit but figured it was worth a try.
Was pretty cool, it has to be said. I've never shot with anything like that focal length before and it was amazing just how...
Great shots, I would be tempted to knock the aperture down a notch or two as they seem a little dark, maybe keep the same shutter speed but try f11 or something? That might help fill in some of the dark patches with a bit of colour.
Other than that (and this one is never easy), try to shoot in...
They 2.0x does quite noticeably, but that's mainly because it takes me up to 600mm, and at 600mm there is an awful lot of heat haze and stuff for the lens to be zooming through. The 1.4x is pretty much as good as shooting with the standard lens.
This is with the 2.0x, so 600mm handheld, still...
I'm sure some of you have seen this, but it's worth posting imo, just amazing...

Worth having a nosey through the Photostream as well, this is even more impressive imo, especially considering the entire event only lasts 0.8 seconds.
Statistically in a straight line maybe, did you actually see 99% of the cars out on track yesterday though? As I said, never seen so much bhp going so slowly, even when bone dry.
The Combe run action days are good fun, despite this being a private event (as in, Japfest booked the circuit) I was hoping it would be similar. If nothing else they are great for seeing people push their cars waaaay to hard and running out of talent.
This was different though, never has so...
Never, this would struggle to be eligible in many championships, let alone Saloon Car Championships. CC Saloons and the Dunlop series (and I assume most others as well) requires an almost standard road car in many respects, is there a single part of this car that actually comes from a road-going...
As discussed in another thread, a bit 'meh', lacking that certain special something that pretty much every other event at Combe has. Also attracts a 'special' crowd, fair to say this is the first time I've actually been intentionally elbowed out of the way when taking pics, or overhearing...
