I keep reading that engines are cheap - but whenever i look, the only cheap ones are the ones with cambelts snapped and therefore probably just as knackered as the one you're replacing.
The running engine seems to be £500 odd, then add on the price of belts, its not exactly cheap.
Not to...
How many track days have people done before any engine issues occurred?
I know we have a thread on mileage, but curious how multiple track days shorten life.
(Assuming correct servicing was done)
Haha correct. I was just looking at options to reduce costs really, but as mentioned, its probably not worth the effort for a small saving.
Although if it coincided with a clutch change, it may be worthwhile.
Yep, this is the potential value i was working with. Not that its all about money, but if im going to plow some funds into a Clio, i would like it to be one that holds its value.
The other advantage of getting belts done professionally vs DIY is the all important receipt.
Would anyone do this job and NOT change the dephaser and water pump though?
I was planning on taking it over myself (wouldn't trust a courier)
But i fear you are still right.
What are we thinking a ok condition Cup is worth these days? (But with no history..)
Furry muff.
Hopefully this Cup is non A/C then, as there is almost £100 difference in price to an A/C model, judging from the Engine Dynamics site at least..
Yes i planned on doing the clutch myself whilst its out.
I''d have thought removing the engine is easier than correctly doing a belt change correctly.. ?
I'm going to view a 172 Cup tomorrow and trying to factor in the cost of belt change.
Along with the other things i know it needs, im struggling to make the numbers work, if its costing circa £600.
How much would i save if removed the engine and took it on a pallet to a specialist for the cambelt?
Yes they do look fairly steep Steve. Hopefully nothing a small plank of wood or the above link wouldn't fix.
**will post wanted ad for new bumper soon**
Has anyone tried these?
I'm going to give them a go.

Pretty much that. Less to go wrong/rot. Especially if it will be a similar price to the standard part.
In hindsight i should have bought a cat back s/s system instead of a standard back box.
I've found 182 straight through center sections for sale online, but im struggling to find a 172 part.
Where can i get a reasonable priced s/s center piece? (straight through ideally)
Has anyone had one custom made around Suffolk/Essex? If so where?
Thanks
Interesting article, if slightly depressing.
I tested the injectors today, and they all measured 13.5 ohms. Im not sure that is conclusive however.
I changed the Lambas because the car failed on Fast Idle emissions.
Based in Suffolk 15 mins south of Bury St Edmunds.
Acoustic valve vacuum was already blocked. (Would have been surprised if i hadn't really)
Will cap carbon canister as per your picture. Just need the feeling to come back to my hands.. fook its cold.
I've done all that - but hoping your're onto something with the air leak.
Possibly any inlet air leak could affect emissions..and my failure. MOT tester said it was running slightly lean.
Yes its a relatively steady 800 rpm on hot tick over. Maybe a hint of hunting.. But that's more audible than actually having a discernible affect on tacho needle.
Even cold, its a fairly steady 1000 rpm.
I've had the car 3 1/2 years, and have replaced brakes, suspensions, driveshafts and...
