I have "just" a K&N cone and love it, makes a massive difference in noise and I use a custom CAF for track use when power is needed.

I doubt you will be able to notice the difference if you went back to standard. Some say it is the best setup and it probly is, value for money wise.
I run a K&N cone because of the sound it makes!
remove the arch liners to check the connections.
if not then maybe the switch, if its not making contact then no signal will get to the lights or the dash light.
then there is always tracking the voltage to the switch, fuse, lights, earth checks........
