Check the white connector in the bottom of the fuse box. Had a limp that was similar caused by it being dirty and not clipped in to the base of the fuse box, it kept coming apart over bumps etc. it's a fiddle to get to.
Also most insurance companies will cover you on both short term if asked I just aphad to do the same. Admiral didn't charge me anything to have both bmws insured for the week.
I'm running 205/45/16 on my 172cup uniroyal rainsport2. Can't knock them and have been amazing in the wet and snow. Not too expensive either so get my vote. Car only gets used on the road though.
