What does everyone think of putting this the comp on hold for a few weeks and doing a 'Photo of the Year' thing, where we do the usual poll etc but you have to submit your favourite photo you took in 2008?
The winner of this round can choose the subject for the next proper round in 2009
Hmmm, D90 or D300 would seem the more logical choice, and they offer more than enough quality for part-time work. Add some cracking glass to those and I would think you would be better off. Personally if I had a few grand going and was interested in weddings, I would buy some fast glass, a spare...
I would say that the data presented is 99% irrelevant to 99% of people, particularly at 'our' end of the market. Replace my D90 with a 50D for a month and I would be amazed if my photos turned out any different, replace my D90 with a D40 for a month and I still doubt there would be much of a...

Interesting, bit confused though. I've got 9 normally, and 28 when I include dropped. The positions are odd as well, 8 of them have been inside the top 100 (one got to 54) when selecting 'Best Position', but when I change it to 'Position' it changes completely.
Kidney stones kicked in again on Friday so didn't want to risk the long drive over the weekend. Seen some pics elsewhere and it looked pretty busy on the Saturday, think the weather must have been much better than it was over here.
Love the Honda shots, but they were always going to appeal to me, nice slow shutter work :)
On the night shot issue, what did you experiment with? I found wide open, ultra slow shutter speeds to work best (i.e. f2.8, 1/10), using flash looked horribly un-natural.
The speed differential in the Saloons is smaller than many other championships (including the CC Special GTs) so I don't honestly think speed is the issue, there are a couple of Class A drivers that rarely put a foot wrong. The front running Class B cars aren't exactly slow either.
Having great fun with this, unfortunately I can't run Premiere Elements as my 'puter is a bit retro, so I'm using Windows Movie Maker which is a bit crap, and halves the resolution.

Didn't get anywhere near there, walked something like 22 miles between midday Saturday and midday Sunday but didn't head that way, saw the flame though. Was one of the most tiring things I've done in my life (especially with the stress of trying to get pics for the assignment - which wasn't an...
Not sure, didn't have time to stop and find out!
Created a very cool effect on my photos though, got a kind of halo around the tower where the surrounding sky was lighter than the rest, can only really see it large...

Took 4 of those shots, this was the only one with a car and it's my favourite :) If nothing else I wanted to demonstrate VR, the conditions really were awful yet this was completely handheld at 1/10 (and ISO1250), not so long ago that shot would have been nigh on impossible handheld.
A few people here will be aware that I went to Paris last weekend on an assignment for a photography magazine. Don't want to say too much more on that as it will be published in a few weeks anyway (the deadline was brutal considering I have a full-time job as well!), but as the assignment...
I was very sceptical, but having recently used the Nikon version of IS (VR, on the 18-200) I'm completely converted. I was shooting 200mm at 9pm, ISO up around the 800s but still getting perfectly sharp shots at shutter speeds I would expect to be a bit inconsistent normally. I'm pretty steady...
Don't even get me started!
Did a Wedding last year, completely paranoid and wetting myself with nerves all day (I did midday to midnight), hated the experience and completely forgot a lot of the basics on more than one occasion. Annoyingly they loved the photos, if I had been rubbish I could...
