From the MSV site:
"The Novice stipulation is in reference to the driver, not the machine. Novice drivers are welcome to come in their road car; but some have already acquired track cars at this point or may be hiring one. In every case - they all are Novice drivers."...
Yea this is it, it all adds up! The production class probably is a sensible route, it's not too far away from what I had planned. I'll have to look at springs on standard dampers instead of coilovers. To clarify when I said spend money on the engine, I just meant belts and dephaser, hesitant to...
I really would like to. It's kind of a longer term plan. Only got the car last October, picked it up cheap as it hadn't had an oil change in 45k miles... Intended it to be a track car, did Snetterton twice and now it's stripped and sat in the garage waiting for a roll cage from the mark fish...
Fantastic work mate, really great effort. Really makes me want to get my engine out, sort the dephaser and give it all a good clean. It's not as bad as yours was but I'd like to see it done. Maybe next winter.
For insurance maybe call Brentacre, they're on this site. They were willing to mirror...
Keep plugging away mate, looking good so far. I'm waiting for my current engine to die before I take on this task, but I'll be very glad to not need it as a daily while I do it. Finding it difficult or just slow going?
http://www.msar.co.uk/motorsport/Race-Harnesses/Harness-Accessories/
I was planning a little shopping spree there for all my harness bits. Only thing I have been unable to find is M10 spreader plates, only 7/16UNF. Does anyone have a source for the M10 plates? (Need them for the M10 submarine...
Thanks for all the responses.
@NorthloopCup that is a fantastic pdf! Also can't believe I've never stumbled across MSAR, that's basically a one stop shop for the fitting bits I need.
My Google skills must be way worse than I thought to have missed them both.
There's plenty of bed time...
Thanks, that's exactly the sort of response I'm looking for. Like I said I already had my concerns with using them - M8 bolts off the list! I'll go for spreader plates with 7/16 eye bolts. The M10 outboard mounting point is considered OK though? I'll have a look for some sparco mounting...
First up, this isn't about mounting shoulder straps to rear seat belt points - they will be wrapped to the harness bar on the SD cage. But thanks to the spine savers who checked.
I'm going to run 6 point sparco harnesses. I'm happy with the shoulder straps and intend to use an M10 eye bolt for...
Wait, all this weight reduction is for lap times? I thought we were all just trying to get greater fuel economy on track!
Eventually all that expense and time spent saving weight will pay for itself in fuel costs. Admittedly this takes quite a while... But that just means the best way to save...
A little off the topic but I weighed my 172 non-cup the other day. Basically completely standard, full fuel but without spare wheel/toolkit. Came in at 1099kg, I aim to start stripping it at the weekend and will do an after weight once the cage and stuff is fitted. My friend's cup under the same...
Thanks guys, definitely a good plan to treat those bolts so I'll do that. Mark you said the door cards are cut down for the cage? I didn't realise that was required?
Also am I likely to stumble across any wiring challenges, or can I just secure everything down where it is?
Hi guys,
I've had my 172 a few months now and been lurking on the forums a little longer. Like many I plan to make it a dedicated track car, hopefully without a run-away budget.
I need to strip the interior ready for a SD cage. I've had a search but can't find much - hoping this is a sign that...
