    182 Dephaser life expectancy...

I do loads without the dephaser needing changing. Don't worry about it too much, if it's a looked after car (regular oil changes) it'll most likely be ok, and it's only going to be an annoyance rather than dangerous even if it does get noisy.

    182 Dephaser life expectancy...

Right. The dephaser pulley switches between 2 points, when the solenoid operates it allows oil pressure to flow into the dephaser, this pushes a plunger out which unlocks the pulley, and allows it to rotate to the advance position. When the oil gets old it causes a scummy plasticy residue...

    'custom' springs

What's "rare" about them? They've simply had an angle grinder taken to a set of what look like G-max. About 12p worth of scrap metal right there

    Orange price rise

Got the letter, it says mines going up to £36 a month. I pay £27.50 at the moment. f**king murders

    Bedford meet anyone???

He's on the new bit behind the pub and hotel. You spoke about it last night while you were adjusting his spacer on the lathe ;)

Cub's Flamer - Supercharged, Cage etc

Re: Cub 172's Flamer Project I'll stand by what I said before on the oil use, it's Valve guide wear (not stem seals as i've been massively misquoted saying) A pretty extreme example though. I have seen one cammed car chuck off the stem seal spring on a valve, and when the head came off, you...

    Bedford meet anyone???

LOL, I get more of you turning up here early evenings, 3-4 nights a week than will commit to a meet

    Rear Humming noise wheel bearing?

situations differ. I oftens see people with non genuine sets of disks that aren't very old, but with one bearing making a noise. In that case it makes more sense to change a bearing for a decent quality one.

Burpspeed Version 2: Race Car Build

    Makes me quite sad

Do these plugs look normal for 50K miles?

just to expand on why those plugs in the picture are past it, on the far left, the ground electrode had erroded quite badly, see how it's rounded off? The far left, and 2nd from the right the center electrodes are both worn/melted back. The other 2 plugs are both showing signs of wear, but not...

Do these plugs look normal for 50K miles?

That's within official tollerence according to Renualt, but a fairly annoying amount.

Do these plugs look normal for 50K miles?

Different plugs, different ignition source (coil on plug), probably realised it was a crazy idea, and they're cheaper

Do these plugs look normal for 50K miles?

no, it's 72k however, I always say to half that to 36k, as is evidenced above, they are always knackered by then. Those plugs are fubar

    Piper Cams BP270 rolling road

looks like it is using a single roller, which always gives a lot lower losses, but higher ATW figure

    Google Nexus 4

I've come to the conclusion that OEM skins are the route of all issues with android. As long as Samsung use Touch-wiz, they're going to be offering a worse phone. I think I'll stick with Nexus devices from now on

    Rear Humming noise wheel bearing?

That was including spending a fair bit of time freeing off your caliper which was sticky

    Ph1 172 Rough Idle

Surprising as the Mk3 cup-racer uses the same TB, and there has to be parts availability for those. I bet RSport in Wimbledon can still get them

    Alternator Belt Fitting

are you using genuine parts? if not, the belt is likely slightly shorter and/or thicker which makes it hard. Genuine usually falls on if you have the belt properly seated on all the other pulleys

    dmallett's indecisive clio thread! Monaco ph2 pg1+, Titanium ph1 pg31+, PB ph1 pg43+

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco Really good pads, Wish I'd stuck with them to start with and not bothered trying the others. they're all I'm selling now apart from standard spec stuff

Not in my experience. Usually a nicer deeper sound without the tinny feel that stainless can give

SERV light has nothing to do with oil level

    K-tec Exhaust too loud!

sounds like it's decatted. That makes a huge difference. Also, there's a a center silencer option available which you may not have that makes quite a difference. I'd put a cat on it personally.

Sorry, had to show off my new wheel

Thats precisely what I wanted done to my 172 wheel. There was nothing but cheap looking crap available at the time. Jealous of that Mick. I might get my 197 wheel done, it's starting to peel.

Venting crank case to atmosphere vs under vaccum for boosted cars

get a tank with decent sized take-offs. the cheapest ones tend to have 8mm ones which are questionable and can cause pressure to back up. Ideally you want 12-16mm. Apart from that, it's just a container, but a sight glass is nice to have

    Apexi power intake

good filter for performance. Ran one on my 200sx. Maintenance free is a bit misleading though, they're disposable. Once it's dirty, throw away and get another

    Quick question about my engine

If you have an early release of the later spec, dance around with joy! The early ones were chronic for loom issues, and a bit of a pain to work on
