I do loads without the dephaser needing changing. Don't worry about it too much, if it's a looked after car (regular oil changes) it'll most likely be ok, and it's only going to be an annoyance rather than dangerous even if it does get noisy.
Right. The dephaser pulley switches between 2 points, when the solenoid operates it allows oil pressure to flow into the dephaser, this pushes a plunger out which unlocks the pulley, and allows it to rotate to the advance position. When the oil gets old it causes a scummy plasticy residue...
Re: Cub 172's Flamer Project
I'll stand by what I said before on the oil use, it's Valve guide wear (not stem seals as i've been massively misquoted saying) A pretty extreme example though.
I have seen one cammed car chuck off the stem seal spring on a valve, and when the head came off, you...
situations differ. I oftens see people with non genuine sets of disks that aren't very old, but with one bearing making a noise. In that case it makes more sense to change a bearing for a decent quality one.
just to expand on why those plugs in the picture are past it, on the far left, the ground electrode had erroded quite badly, see how it's rounded off? The far left, and 2nd from the right the center electrodes are both worn/melted back. The other 2 plugs are both showing signs of wear, but not...
I've come to the conclusion that OEM skins are the route of all issues with android. As long as Samsung use Touch-wiz, they're going to be offering a worse phone.
I think I'll stick with Nexus devices from now on
are you using genuine parts? if not, the belt is likely slightly shorter and/or thicker which makes it hard. Genuine usually falls on if you have the belt properly seated on all the other pulleys
Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco
Really good pads, Wish I'd stuck with them to start with and not bothered trying the others. they're all I'm selling now apart from standard spec stuff
sounds like it's decatted. That makes a huge difference. Also, there's a a center silencer option available which you may not have that makes quite a difference. I'd put a cat on it personally.
Thats precisely what I wanted done to my 172 wheel. There was nothing but cheap looking crap available at the time. Jealous of that Mick. I might get my 197 wheel done, it's starting to peel.
get a tank with decent sized take-offs. the cheapest ones tend to have 8mm ones which are questionable and can cause pressure to back up. Ideally you want 12-16mm. Apart from that, it's just a container, but a sight glass is nice to have
good filter for performance. Ran one on my 200sx. Maintenance free is a bit misleading though, they're disposable. Once it's dirty, throw away and get another
