The trouble is the harder the compound (last longer) the less grip the tyre provide (generally speaking).
It is quite hard to find a long lasting tyre that give excellent grip levels.. but you can immediatly rule out toyo proxies cause they have a really soft compound.

emm.. its was the pro ones I got ? that the right ones ? ktec said they are getting the springs in tommorow so hopefully not have to wait too long to get them fitted.

I know exactly what im talking about as I am talking from experience.
In the dry the proxies owned the contis but the compound is very soft and only lasted me 7 or 8 months.
The conti were much better than the proxies in the wet, but still were crap.. im running uniroyal rainsports now...
Did you put them in the right way round. :p
Seriously though, check the are situated properly, check your disks for damage and if not try and bed them in slowly, no hard braking unless you cant help it.

And a byproduct of not locking up the wheels is stoping quicker, especially in the wet.
If you lock the wheels when stopping you can expect to travel almost 2x the distance than if you didnt lock up !
