If it hasnt been messed with and history is correct then check for the usual stuff. The engines seem to be fairly bulletproof. In my experience electrics and brakes suffer. Just remember there are different ways to achieve 130k !
My Phase 1 172 has done 89k. Should just be run in by now ...
Last night car would not start. Turned over with all lights but will not catch. Tried again this morning and it fires up first attempt. I guess this is immobiliser related. Common issue ? How can i get the immobiliser checked out ? Any diagnostics stored in ecu ?

Braided hoses are to stop the flexing in the standard rubber hoses especially when they age. Will find that the pedal should firm up and improve the feel.
Not sure of the different type just make sure they are all stainless ie. hoses and fittings. The use of hoses makes no difference to discs \...
I have a phase 1 172 with a problem with the central locking.
For some reason the locking activates randomly while driving the car. Switch on panel shows doors to be locked. I unlock but then sometime later it relocks itself. Any ideas? Not sure if it also unlocks itself - not had the car long.

I have just yesterday bought a sunflower 172. Not mint but very close to it. Not bad at all for a seven year old car. Helps that it was one owner. Dont believe what you read sunflower looks good in the flesh.

i had a new pump fitted also. sounds as if i had the same symptoms as you.
cost me £350 for the pump and cambelt change
it does cost to have the belt changed but i see it as an insurance policy.
i dont like four figure repair bills and it sounds like a few early 172 are suffering from this...
u need a locking kit for the cams etc.
do not attempt it without these kits ! the crank pulley does not locate using a woodruff key you must use the kit from Renault otherwise you wont be able to time it ! best advice is to take to somebody who has done them before (2.0 megane is the same...

I bought my late 2000 Mk1 172 6 months ago on ebay.
I paid £5.2k for it which was very cheap at the time. It was never proved but i think the owner bid me up a couple of hundred under a different user name. He was selling a second car the following week and the same user also bid on that one...

once the headlining has been removed is it possible to get at the roof panel ? the reason is that i have a dent in the panel that i would like to get removed.
looks like somebody sat something on the roof at sometime and it made the impression.
i cant believe how thin the roof panels are on...
