I remember seeing the rust on some examples around the rear arches that was pretty severe! Overall if I can find a rust free one, would it be a worthwhile buy say at 2k?

Have you seen the spec and look of the Kia, it's going to be a competitor for the same market that the RS usually appeals to, it helps that the Kia will be a 3 door too.

Good to know that none of the major issues have reappeared and that you can finally enjoy driving the thing!
