Okay cheers fellas. I think its a bearing that's shattered. It still works okay but winds horrendously and theres a hole in the bottom as if a bearing has shot out and also no oil in it now.
To save me a lot of hassle of ringing around; Does anyone know where I might be able to find a reconditioned box and how much I'm likely to pay? If the prices are horrific I'll just try and find a second hand box.
Thanks
Brad
That's really bad mate :(. I hope the person driving on the wrong side of the road is living with a lot of guilt. Look at it this way though. That fence pole could have killed you if it was a few inches closer to your head so at least you're okay now. Health always comes first. Good luck with...
Cheers middo! Gonna get a runabout for the time being. Saw a couple of £06 1.9 turbo diesels in the paper but I rang and both had already sold. And the perhaps stick a second hand gearbox in the valver and see how things go.
Tempted to whack in a second hand gearbox and chance that. However, if I go down the route of buying another car what could I get for say £4k? I'm only 18/19 so I don't want anything over about an insurance group of say 14. Want something with a bit of pace but reliable too would be good...
Yeah I see your points. I feel like we've gone too far to turn back now, but I really don't know what to do. Thinking about sourcing a second hand 16v gearbox and just fitting that for the time being and hope it holds...
Right. I posted some pics of my valver a week or two back as it was getting near to roadworthy condition. By last friday I was back driving it and everything seemed to be going well, although I do know that there is an oil leak frm the engine. Then driving about on sunday evening I start to hear...
Driving about tonight. And notice a whirring noise appear whilst driving in third. Gradually got worse and appeared in all gears. The whirring noise gets more high pitched as the revs increase. Is my gearbox on its way out? :(
Thanks for the advice fellas. In the next few weeks I think I'll buy some new pads all around (standard, mintex, green stuff or ds2500's) are all in the equation and new rear discs (probably standard). Front discs still have loads of wear left on them. And I will also bleed the brakes and check...
Pads are very worn :P. Need to replace them soon. Dad seems to think it's the ABS messing about though. Reccomend me some good brake discs that don't squeal too much. Around or under £35 per set mark please.
When I'm braking, just as the cars about to come to a stop It makes a grating noise and the brake pedal vibrates. Is this the ABS kicking in for some reason? If so why is it doing this? Happeneing at all speeds/force of braking.
