copied over from my project thread
circlip popped on the gearbox, so decided to remove the engine to take the box off to get it welded on!

seems like i spent most of the time faffing around with axle stands :D - but...
:D
After fitting a 172 rack to the valver for neater pipes :o.
looks like the sport rack should fit the mk1 subframe and hubs and column - can someone confirm?
is that a mk2 rack?
I know some are electric (and rubbish :D) but are all the hydraulic clio racks the same? or do some...
Are there any differences in the bottom ends for a ph1 172 and a 182?
internally or externally (crank case)?
flywheel/clutch the same?
heads interchangable?
cheers :D
Am I right in thinking the downstream lambda is only required to test if the cat is working correctly? It has no bearing on fueling or anything else?
(on a ph1 172)
I'm just trying to tidy up the 172 loom to fit my mk1 and want to sort out the fan...
as far as I can work out, i've not removed anything from the loom that should effect the running of the fan - unless its controlled by something in the dash?
there are 2 connectors that come off the same...
oh yes, I'm back with s'more questions
I've got the engine out and the head off and I want to take the bottom end apart... what's the correct proceedure?
flip upside down, remove flywheel (do I need to note how it came off?), unbolt sump, unbolt oily bits inside, remove...
I've plonked a 172 engine into a mk1 and I'm using the 172 (ph1?) manifold with a custom downpipe
thing is, its blowing massively... its *slightly* out of line... by a few degrees maybe... but this shouldnt be an issue has the engine rocks anyway....
but the downpipe join im using comes...
I have a 172 engine fitting into a mk1 clio and I want to wire up the oil pressure sender like the mk1 engine... but the mk2 doesnt have the hole...
would I be right in thinking I can buy a sandwich plate for the oil filter whick will allow me to screw the sender in? anyone got a link to one...
Got a bit of time, so was going to remove the head on my broken 172 engine and see how bad it is and refit it all properly!
I've got the cam cover and cams removed, to remove the head I just need to remove the exhaust manifold and then the head bolts.
what size torx bit (inverse torx? :S)...
next up in my never ending list of 172 questions ;)
I'm trying to thin down my loom to fit to the mk1, so need to get rid of anything that wont be used in the mk1
I have a few loom connectors that I'm not sure of
1st is the 3pin connector that branches off where the starter motor...
how do you check to see if a cambelt is on properly and the cams etc are properly timed in? there are no timing marks as far as i can see :(
also, how tight/loose should the cambelt be, on mine i can wiggle the belt around quite freely!
just wondering if it might have slipped a few teeth...
in the final stages of getting my 172 running I'd like to renew the HT leads as well (already done CPS/Coil pack/spark plugs)
question is, would Halfords sell 172 HT leads and would the be likely to have them in stock?
Never bought HT leads before and I've left it a bit late, so would like...
following on from my hot start thread, my engine now wont start at all
I'm getting no spark and as far as i can see, no injectors are firing.
the fuel pump is priming and I can feel the lines pressurise.
I'm getting temporary 12V at the coilpack when i turn the ignition on.
I bought a brand...
having a few teething problems with the conversion... mainly that it wont start up after its been running
from cold start it fires in to life easily, but just turns over and over when its a hot start
I've got a CTS from a 1.6... as they looked the same to me :quiet: - would this be causing...
can someone confirm the part numbers of the engine control relay and the fuel pump relay in a mk1 172?
I've got them both as 77 00 414 484 but my fuel pump wont run on it (runs if I bridge it myself though)
did a quick search, but couldn't find anything...
I've gone to connect my ht leads on the 172 engine but need to know what cylinder numbers are which :D
the mk1 16v is cambelt 4 and gearbox 1, but I hear the 172 is cambelt 1 and gearbox 4?
which is the right numbering?
trying to get my 172 engine to start but the fuel pump isnt priming - looks like ive got a relay (or 3) missing
fuel pump relay is meant to go where i've circled?
are the other spaces meant to be occupied by relays too?
Below is my version of events with Dan/Danlp6/Daniel Potter...
Most of you will probably already know of Dan and his dealings (splittergate etc) and will probably say it's all my fault and that I shouldn't have trusted him etc... But let me just say write this post as a warning to you all, as I...
got a few more questions about the UCH and the engine loom/ECU etc... :o
I'm putting a 172 engine in to a mk1, so do not have the UCH etc. I have a decoded ECU which should allow me to just plug it in to the engine loom and fire it up.
question is, if I have a loom with the UCH connector...
