It depends whether you have the maplight version or not. The maplight version should work both ways, the festoon/non map light version doesn't.

Current flows in opposite directions. LED's only work one way. You can: Choose whether you want it on doors or manual Solder another LED in next to it, the other way round or use a bridge rectifier.

I think you *may* have gotten away with that one. No external signs of bending that I can see. As said though, check in the boot.
