Sport have rear disk brakes and 16 inches wheels (aassuming there the new shape one ie with triagular lights). However there not wider at the back the front is wider than other clio and lower but no wider

Its not the ECU as far as I remember the ECU is over behind the batery.
Its as far as I can see its the imobiliser It should have a security bracket round it.

The car maybe be based on the platform but the Micra platform was designed by Renault for the Clio originally but Nissan got it as they needed something for there new Micra.
Anyway Im not sure the new Clio achually is the same metal chassic it may just be the wiring and engine/ mechanical bits...
What do you mean the bits may not have been changed from 2000 to 2003 so although parts are refered top as 2003 ones they are exactly the same.
The car might however have been in an accident so parts were replaced on the cheap.
Yep it would be interesting to try on a track for sure. Not a good idea to try on a famously dangerous road (thats what the recovery driver said). I was sort of pushing to hard though.

90% sure the new Renault sport is a 2.0 turbo probably about 200hp.

The Clio is a little ligt at the back so needs to best grip possible there.
If you stick the tyres round you may find yourself swopping ends comming out of bends which isnt fun or cheap.

Dont put of buying the car you want just because there a new one due in 18 months. After all a revamp of the new car will already be on the cards for 2yrs after its released.

Id recomend a proper custom remap on a unichip or external ECU much better gains plus its made up for your car and what you want ie more low end power etc. Same price as well.

What chip are you talking about a R-Sport one or a superchip or a custom external ecu tye one?
Depends what you wnt there nothing particular but you culd get airfilters/ IK.
Mods for the 172 should work fine though.
The 182 has a less restrictive cat than the 172 so decat may be not as effective.

If you want to make something unique (which is good for a change) the 1.2 could be supercharged your looking at about £5k for ~100hp but youd need another about £800 for lowered pistons to let you hit ~130hp.
Another £300 on cams and youd be on about 140 I recon.
As to the box strenght well...
Very much dought it. You can get new one for silly money £6.5 is about the best Id say put it in for that and accept upto £6.3. You could try for £6.7k but most buyers wont pay for mods and in private sales can lower the amount there willing to pay (even if they were going to mod it).

The 172 has 166.6 hp in British measurment.
The 182 would therefore have about 176.7hp.
