I had a 1.8 16v and that was a money pit - real nightmare.
If you pay extra for a good one I cant see there been any more problems then running any other car thats 15yrs old.
The reason that 9am meets are organised for events such as buttertubs is that if you drive up there at say 1pm - 2pm you might as well forget it due to all the old giffs on the road.
Good commitment doing 450 miles though.
Well, I know Daz tried to organise a few that started at Colton. The only reason for this meeting point was that it was fairly central and also next to the A1/M1 junction so easy to get to.
As has been said, the county is quite large so unfortunately, the meets arent going to be on everyones...
I went to the wheel specialist for mine doing and they did a pretty good job.
How badly kerbed are the wheels? There is a place that does powder coating and minor refurbs in Bradford thats cheap as chips.
I like it to be honest.
I liked the 197 but it did not react to being tampered with as well as the 172. When I decatted the 197 it developed a flat stop so bad it could stop the world from turning.
