Tbh the fact that the exhaust pops suggests to me that unburnt fuel is being sent down it, which would point to ignition. So yeah, try plugs.

If there is a guide, I'm afraid it'd only be available to CS members. I believe it's just a case of swapping the blanks for the light units, and then I think there's a loom to hook up, and the light stalk needs to be swapped. I would 100% recommend paying the £12 for membership. I've saved...
