I thought it was about time I updated this again.
Sorting out my engine was dragging on, so I picked up a freshly built standard spec engine with ARP rod bolts, ARP head studs and supertech valves.
When it was home we quickly got it onto the stand and started putting all the bits back on.
Ha! I've driven a Clio on track without assistance and it was horrid in my opinion. Let alone how s**t it is when trying to maneuver around or get onto a trailer.
Removes one more thing which can fail and f**k up your life. No more leaks either. More access for working under the bonnet. Less weight in the bay less strain on the aux belt (if those things count).

Does your car have a tiny hole in the plastic on the lip beneath the fuel filler cap?
Mine does, and I'm wondering if its where the rust has started from water seaping down there...
My mates 172 cup doesn't have said hole.

You mentioned you were getting consistent oil temps <100. Is that correct? Surely you'd want the temps to be consistednt around 110-120?
Also, did your mate ever find out the reason for the engine failure on his Mk1...
Hence my question to the OP.
If his family had a Trophy from the factory and it was a dream car then it would make much more sense to want a car of the same model. Mint cups, trophys and RB 182s are far more desirable than 197s.
Very sad to hear you've given up with the Trophy but wow what a replacement! I'd have chopped it in myself if that was on the cards!
One of my favourite drivers cars at the moment. Very good choice.

We've salvaged lots of interior parts from a couple of different breaker cars in recently.
Next was the bulkhead insulation which was in surpriginsly good nick. Then the dashboard frame.
The loom was ready to mock up.
Then after a lot of fiddling and cutting, the underlay and carpets...
Graham wasn't happy with how some of the wiring sat under the dash so we proceeded to take the entier loom out so he could work his magic.
He used bits from three different looms and intergrated the aftermarket parts (oil gauge, shift light, EPAS) into the standard loom. He then put superseal...

My dealer weren't and had to check it themselves. Or they could have just been lying to me which is also plausable too haha.
No need for pumps. Garden hose in the side with a funnel is all you'll ever need. Double check the car is level and when there's enough it will start to drip out the hole.
Hardly a big deal to save a few hundred quid though is it...?
