I bought an Acer Aspire 5536 for £305 ths week fecking bargain
AMD Turion dual core 2.1ghz
4GB RAM
250GB SATA HD
LED backlit screen
ATI Radeon Graphics
The finish is great, its silent when the fans not going mental and I've already ordered windows 7.
received it today, it's 5536 not a 5535 so has a faster processor and windows vista premium, full of win for £305 it's immaculate and really well built.
Yeah, it seemed too good to be true but I called them to confirm some details and they said oh sorry it has 4GB RAM, not 3GB lol
Cheers for your advice, nobody else bothered lol
I have taken the plunge, ordered an Acer with AMD Turion Dual Core 2GHz processor with ATI Radeon graphics on board with a 256MB dedicated memory for Graphics.
Its got 4GB RAM and a 250GB SATA HD.
Bought from Argos Clearance on ebay as a 'refurb' A1 condition 12 months warranty - £295 + £9.95...
cheers, yeah had the same thought. found a nice acer for £420 with dedicated graphics card:

Core 2 duo too, could be a winner!
Cheers. I run Autodesk Inventor on my laptop at the mo and Photoshop 7 not the latest versions but perfectly adequate for when I use them.
Yeah it is a shared graphics processor with some dedicated memory as you say I googled the graphics processor model the other day.
Any advice?
Do I need a dedicated graphics card if I'm not going to be playing games? Will films, photoshop, rendered cad images etc be reasonable enough with shared graphics?

this is quite appealing, not sure about the processor but has separate graphics which has to help eh?!
Cheers, I have run cad no problem on my old pentium 4 laptop with 512Mb of RAM so anything modern with decent graphics capabilities should handle it fine.
My laptop has packed up after 6 years use, it was a P4 3ghz with 512Mb of RAM I believe.
I use it for tinternet, a bit of photoshop, a bit of CAD now and again, watching pirate movies ;), bit of word processing.
Would like bluetooth built in, battery life of a couple of hours is fine, prob...
whining sounds like power steering, does it sound like a BMW Mini? :rasp:
Alternatively if its more a knock than a whine it could be a driveshaft boot that's split and running dry and if you're seeing oil it's likely to be passenger side, if the oil is melted grease then it could be drivers...
yeah you're right, sorry its 6500 or 7250 isn't it, my mistake
strange, so only happens at full throttle? but not if you gradually build up to full throttle?
Get it on the ramp and look at it, my outer boot had split there was grease in the area from it and it's obviously run dry and worn. A knock on lock and at low speed maneouvring, also feel it through the wheel if you're observant.
I just got a transmissions specialist to do it, £95 fitted inc...
the rev limiter is different in different gears and lower when the engine is cold, are you taking this into account? peak rev limiter is 6250rpm normally if I recall correctly
PITFA! Parts supplier supplied a valver drive shaft FFS, then said oh we can't get one for that car, we can send it away for 4-5 days for a refurb if you like.
So....took the car back, and called a transmission specialist near my flat and the cars going in tomorrow for a refurbished driveshaft...
