Vans new diesel pump is busted. Need to replace that.

it's just completely dependant on how long the ECU bracket take you to get off. It can just come off or like one of ours, I had to cut it off and it took over an hour.
That's of course up to you but I never had a problem with mine. The steering rack bolts and far easier to access on the EPAS set up with the subframe in the car.

I think the dci rack is fine but the epas column can wear and cause knocking when under heavy load. One of our dcis does it and the noise is definitely not coming from the rack.
Takes 15 minutes after you've got the ECU cover off (1 minute or 1 day)
need a deep 10mm for the ECU, torx bits can't remember size, about t20, for the steering cowel. 13mm for uch bracket and 1 torx under fuse box cover
Pump. Got exactly the same problem currently with the kangoo. Can't build enough pressure to start the engine. If you try 5 lots of 10s bursts the pressure gets enough to force a start. Just like with this easy start stuff.

If you don't already have airbags and the put seats with airbags in then they will just be there doing nothing as you can't plug them in. If you try and plug them in but the airbag ecu isn't programmed for them then you will get a light.

Lots of leaning over and back ache because it's under the exhaust manifold. You'll see there's a little heat sheild on it which just pulls off.
Need
Dash wiring, climate panel, heater box, climate control section of the climate loom and the blower motor inc resistor pack.
Takes quite a long time to swap it all over. Some of the wires are there like the connection to the ecu for the AC are there but it's a bigger job than the results...
Ask your garage. They will have to remove aux to do the cambelt. New belt is probably a tenner. New tensioner is easy and quick to fit but not sure of price.
Did you test if the bendix was working before you put the new one in?
Starter switch may have gone, I know this is common on some VW's but never heard of it on a clio.

Ticking could be valve clearance or just rubbish oil but it's nothing I would worry about.

Chip, you've sorted the gearbox query! Does the 1.2 have a place to mount the central o/s driveshaft bearing carrier. My DCI didn't and hence I had to get a 172 cup shaft (no bearing carrier)
If I'd put that much work into a car, chopping it in to just get a 172 wouldn't even enter my head ! :D
Not sure of the gearbox/engineblock set up on a 1.2 but it should be fairly similar.
Quick note on ABS. If you have 44 tooth ABS you will need to get rear sensors from renault from a clio 1.6 which doesn't have esp and also swap the plugs around (left to right and right to left). I didn't have...
