Updates
Blue dci seemed a little bit down on power recently. Stuck a new delphi diesel filter on as cant remember when i changed it last, possibly when i refreshed the rings but that was 22k ago! Also nipped up boost hose clips as they had backed off a little, seems more willing to go torque is...
Updates from the weekend
Changed oil for 3rd lot of fresh millers cro mineral with new filter. Filtered drained oil and nothing to be concerned about.
More running in miles done, around 150 done in total. Brimmed tank and took it for a blast up to Whitby and surrounding areas, all b road/hilly...
Cheers mate. I love the look on the compomotives.
I always expect some teething issues but last few projects dont seem to have had any. Touch wood
Saturday update
Had a couple of small jobs to do. Started off by making a small cowling to go around rad, to keep the s**t out of the engine bay and to try and force air through the rad. Not the prettiest, but hidden from view when grill is on anyway.
Refitted grill, bumper and arch liners...
As above as far as i know, vvt via pmw would need a cam sensor.
Could always upgrade to 197 head, dephaser and vvt solenoid and run full sequential ign at the same time on standalone if you wanted a better setup.
Id just make sure the solenoid is working and get it setup on the dyno on 172 vvt.
Ive had a few lightened oem r5gtt flywheels too, and had no breakages. All pre the days of billet flywheels been easily available.
One in particular was scalloped on the rear and slotted between clutch plate mounting points from 7kg down to 3.6kg, i believe it was as light as the machinist...
Cant imagine a slight reface is going to hurt anything assuming its not been done before. Ive not done a 172 flywheel, but have had other renault flywheels ground no issues.
Sunday update
Boxed off the last bits early am as weather was mild and dry. Replaced rubber dust covers on balljoints - pains me as they are 6000 miles/18 month old quality trw replacements that i fitted, rubber boot had totally split on drivers side and passengers cracked. Refitted driveshafts...
Updates
Weather did not turn out too bad, cold but dry so went for it.
All went in very easily. Engine is complete and ready to fire, coolant bled etc. I was going to fire it up but ran out of light/needs a can of fuel as its absolutely on its arse.
Not much left to do, refit driveshafts...
Small update.
Decat repaired and wrapped with DEI titanium wrap.
Looking highly unlikely that ill get engine in this weekend sadly. Need this sleet/snow to go!
Thanks for reading!!
Snap on techangle is one of the best tools ive bought.
I could do with a 1/2 click type torque wrench for wheels and that as my old britool is getting a bit long in the teeth. Thinking halfords one
When i first bought it i was unsure whether it was worth it for a one off job, but over the years its absolutely earned its money. Must have done at least 10 sets of bearings and loads of bushes and other random jobs. Still s**t myself every time i use it if a bearing case moves with a bang like...
Small update
Box back on, starter etc all bolts torqued. Filled with running in mineral oil and took plugs out/put turbo oil feed into a bottle and span engine over on starter to prime oil system. Oil came out of the feed after a few seconds so thats good, its ready to start.
Plugs gapped to...
Weekend update
Wheel bearing noise has reduced quite a bit with the fronts done, but still some noise on the back at speed. Its never going to be a fecking rolls royce but can be improved as the drone at 70 is annoying.
Got 2x rear bearings from local factors today £25 the pair.
Jacked up...
Spare hour today.
Reset self adjusting mech on the clutch. Ive done this in my press before, but as the trophy is in the way and couldnt be arsed moving it, done it with a puller instead. The self adjusting mech had barely moved but didnt want to risk any issues.
Simply compress the pressure...
Just seen the new piston pics. Should give a fair increase in compression, interested to see how it all comes together, keep the updates coming mate (y)
Ive fixed a few immob red light of doom and its always related to the underbonnet fusebox area. Nice easy one this one luckily.
Interestingly i tried the obd scanner on clip today. No faults present apparently, id already went into the ecus and found the info logged so knew faults were stored...
Monday update
Another day another small issue. Go out on a site visit to Cramlington approx an hr away/100 mile round trip. Make it there no fuss and on way back stop at local garage to get toe set.
Pull up and turn engine off no issues. My mate shouts me to bring it in, go to start and red...
