    Cat 438 Camshafts

Mine made 197 bhp, so edging closer to 200, but I agree - around the 190 mark seems like a peak figure on the standard inlet / throttle set up. I'll let you know the difference the trumpets make in August!

Running cams, matched inlets and a remap...

In response to the OP, I had the 438's, remap and a custom induction set up put on. Haven't got matched inlets though. Results were; Before - 174.8 bhp, 157.6 lb ft After - 197 bhp, 165.6 lb ft So, yes, there is a lot of difference. It pulls like a train and i'm very happy with both the bhp...

    Cat 438 Camshafts

Fair enough. But ignoring RR figures, it really boils down to how happy I am with it and how it drives. And i'm very happy. I'll be even happier come August with the Trumpets on....

    Cat 438 Camshafts

I'm only quoting the figures from the RR. It pulls extremely well and i'm really happy with the drive. Quite a few people on here have checked the K-Tec RR against Surrey RR and had very comparable results. Have a look at my project thread which shows Danny from 519 stating this. Hardly in his...

    Cat 438 Camshafts

Me or shiftspark? If it is me, i'm on standard inlets, and the induction kit is a custom creation from K-tec that i can't give too many details on as they are planning on developing the product. If you want to know more, suggest you give them a ring.

    Cat 438 Camshafts

Only just seen this thread. Alot of you guys in this thread know this, but i'll summarise mine for those interested in 438's and who may look at this thread both now and in the future. Standard (bar exhaust and generic map) - 174.8 bhp & 157.6 lb ft With cams, new induction and remapped - 197...

    182 and poor fuel ecconomy

Hello mate, How is she running since the RR day? Like the others have said, I average 30.2 MPG on a 6.5 mile each way journey to work, so yours doesn't sound out. Got to 34.8 MPG the other day but that was a return trip to Warwick at 70 nearly all the way up the motorway. Mine ran 197 bhp...

Awesome, couple of photos of the flamer appeared. Cheers, Daz, thank your mate. And I agree, the last photo of the wheel of yours spinning looks epic. Oli

South West Rolling Road at K-tec Racing: 21st January

Will, what is the time limit on doing this and getting over to you, i'm off to the states on Saturday for a week, but want to get the info over to you. I was intending to post the graph of it after its work, as opposed to the actual day, as Luke wasn't up early enough to photo mine as it ran...

I was there, along with about 30 other people. And I don't think I have sworn once on this forum, so I wouldn't generalise chaps...everybody is different.

I can't understand the anti k-Tec rubbish either. Will - flamer made 197bhp and 167 LB ft after the 438 cams...check out my project thread for the graphs. Happy days!

I'm up for it, just not this week as I'm in the US with work. Dan - lol at Gatwick! I'll leave the axle stands in reception tomorrow morning mate. Next time your in the office i'll run you out in the flamer so you can see the effect of the cams if you want...

Cub's Flamer - Supercharged, Cage etc

Re: Cub 172's Flamer Project I'd give Andy at ring at K-Tec mate, iirc he said the induction change unlocked another 11bhp.........but i'd ring him to make sure it wasn't my old age earing aid failing.

Cub's Flamer - Supercharged, Cage etc

Re: Cub 172's Flamer Project Clearly I've been educated that it's not the map and it's the cam profile causing the torque drop at 3.5k, lol. I have to profess, I'm no expert hence me not doing the work! It does drive well, and the power comes through strong when called on. It was due to be at...

    rolling road figures

Yep, i'm well chuffed. Would have been mighty fecked off had I spent the cash and popped out with 180 bhp! Get yours in for some mechanical TLC at some point mate, and i suspect it will spit out a good figure as it seemed pretty strong despite the lean running / smokyness......

    Two guys two cups!

Both cars look good, as ever guys, give me a shout next time and i'll bring the flamer around. Dan's RB is spotless everytime I see it at work! Dan - still got your axle stands mate, you not been in work / get my email? Flamer got cams at the wkd, and spat out 197 bhp / 167 Lb ft afterwards on...

    rolling road figures

I don't think K-tec were feeding you 'needing new rings' from a performance perspective, it was more in relation to the puffs of blue smoke appearing out of the back.... But, mine was the other one running lean from the generic map, like yours. As you know I left mine in for cams and a remap...

Cub's Flamer - Supercharged, Cage etc

Re: Cub 172's Flamer Project Yeah, the remap has sacrificed some lower end torque, but its not horrifically noticeable. I suppose i'll need to be hovering at 4k if I am in a mood to be making progress....plus it has pushed torque up slightly at 3k.

Cub's Flamer - Supercharged, Cage etc

Re: Cub 172's Flamer Project Cheers mate. Yep, i'm glad it seems to be a strong one, but even I was surprised it got up to the high 190's. Drives excellently, had a smile all the way home. Get saving for the ITB's now....

The difference some mechanical loving (and 438 cams....) makes....

Got my flamer back from K-Tec today after the work I left it for (12k service, mounts, cams and remapping). With the 438 cams and mechanical TLC from Mike and some free of charge custom induction kit creation from Andy, coupled to the mapping, got me a rise from 174.8 bhp / 156 lb ft to 197 bhp...

Guys, got mine back from K-Tec today after the work I left it for. They have outdone themselves this time. Cub's Flamer - Supercharged, Cage etc

Re: Cub 172's Flamer Project Right, update time. I took the Flamer to the South West RR day on Saturday. It ran 174.8 bhp and 157.6 lb ft. The graph should be below. I was happy with the figure as it was in need of some mechanical TLC (12K service, and cam / aux belt & dephaser). I left the...

South West Rolling Road at K-tec Racing: 21st January

Well, half of me thinks I'm glad they have courtesy cars, even if they are 16 year old plodders. The other half of me thinks, the money I'm dropping could buy me another 172 to drive home in! To be fair, they have always gone the extra mile for me, so I'll let them off making me look like a...
