Cheers Dawn. Yours is looking great in the other thread, was uncertain on the 182 alloys, but I think it looks great. You should head down to the next Shire Horse meet at Maidenhead. Flamer appreciation society :)
Newer ones mate, same RS logo as the 197 (i.e. same as the one on the back of my car). They are 1*2 fitment though. Got them from Wests on here - great service from them by the way.
Thanks for the comments guys, its soon about to clock over 90k miles, so not too bad condition considering. Puts...
Nice sunny day, had received a new aerial and RS mats over the weekend, so stuck them on / in the car went for a drive and grabbed a few photos seeing as it was looking reasonably clean (only rubbish iphone pics i'm afraid).
Comments welcome, good or bad.
Brett - fair enough, you're right - unless I was specifically looking to modify / improve the performance of my car to use on track, then you could argue any additional spend on it was pointless.
The joy of the 438s though is the minimal difference to standard idle, you can hardly tell its cammed to be honest. I agree though, lairy cams, with rough idle, would be annoying on a daily.
You doing the next one? I'm on honeymoon which I'm gutted about...
If there is a chance to see it, I'd jump at a passenger ride. Maybe the next SC meet, quite a turnout last time, even DK appeared in his lovely new merc.
Dont worry, I'm not brainwashed into thinking the 438's improve power or response at low rpm, and agree with the posts above that unless it's above 4.5kish you get little noticeable difference, unlike rs2 or ITB's. But at the moment that is ideal, as unless I'm on track I want to burble along in...
Mine is a daily driver at the moment. Behaves perfectly - if I want to 'pootle' about in the commute I just change gear at 3k. If I feel like pressing on, I change at higher revs and keep it in the power band more. I've averaged 33mpg on a daily 15 mile commute, including times I decide to drive...
The op asked for downsides to getting 438 cams, he didn't say 'is it worth modding my car'. The cams in question make a noticeable difference to performance (hence my post above) and have few downsides. I was wondering on what basis Brett felt that the cams in question made little difference...
Cheers mate. To get 197 bhp I had to cough up for 438 cams, k-tec induction kit and plenty of decent mapping. Exhaust and manifold was on it when I bought it from JMS. That bill came to £2.5kish, as it was done at the same time as my cambelt / dephaser and major service and a few other bits and...
Love it. Loved it on the white turinis, love it even more on the 2118's.
Its made my mind up, a set of 2118's for track wheels / a change when I feel like it, will need to be bought.
To give you an idea, here are a few pictures of mine on 'practical' lows and spacers (i.e. I can drive it around on british roads without constantly cracking the splitter, drive it over speed bumps and basically not make my car look 'broken' like the dub scene). Mine is on Bilstein B14 coilovers...
Its the little details that make the car - indeed fully race prepped :p
You'll laugh even more when I tell you its a porsche aerial - because race car!
Sadly not mate, i'm at a wedding (not mine, that's the week after). I will be near Combe, actually staying in a village just down the road ironically.
Understand on the turbo, I am constantly driving around in the other halfs Micra (yes, like a baller) at the moment, as I am doing a lot more...
