172 Track Car Engine rebuild tips

Nightmare, yeah you'd need to see what went/is going wrong for them to throw rods out, whether its oil pressure related, bearing failure etc, I try and keep away from the limiter for this reason on my 172, read a few similar stories 🫣😂

Clio 172 gritty clutch pedal after hard driving?

    Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

Powder coating just cant deal with stone chips, i used to use my cup all year, it was restored underneath and everything has held up well with it being waxoiled over the years, its all the powder coated items that now look in a sad state, rear axle was chipped to death within 18months after not...

My rusty Williams, where to start?

Worst thing is once you get into it there's usually a load more fabrication needed, not always but its usually the case

My rusty Williams, where to start?

You'd be better getting a good shell and using that instead of repairing the one you have if it requires what you've listed above, most quotes will be high as its a lot of work, once you add paint the shell will cost you more than the cars worth when built, thats the route I'd go down anyway

    Mondial 172 Cup OEM+ / Rolling Resto

Looks like it'll be nice once complete, only thing i would say is I'd avoid powder coating except the wheels, paint is far more durable with stone chips and the like, powder simply looks terrible and falls apart in a few years if the car is used in all weather's, I've learnt from my mistakes 😂...

    Mk4 Intermittent steering wheel vibration

Their pistons are coated unlike the renault ones, which then deteriorate, crack and causes them to stick, mine failed quickly after very little use, If your only getting an intermittent issue then it could be the master cylinder, it sounds to still be a brake issue

    Mk4 Intermittent steering wheel vibration

Sounds brake related, recheck the calipers, check disc are running true, test master cylinder, best for this to be done on a brake test machine really if its intermittent, that's where I'd start. Were the calipers overhauled using big red pistons, if so then that might be the issue also

Clunking noise from gear change mechanism

That's fine, if its just when accelerating it has to be either shafts, hubs, engine or box touching something, get it on axle stands, fire it up and have a mate find the issue

CUP172 - REAR BRAKES - ONLY ONE RECEIVING FLUID

I just sprayed mine with wd40 and worked it up and down without taking it apart last month, had the same issue you had, worked it a good while and it's back to working fine, they basically never move much which is the issue. I've had mine coated in wax a few times in the last 10yrs which has...

CUP172 - REAR BRAKES - ONLY ONE RECEIVING FLUID

Spray some wd40 on the valve and work it up and down, most get sticky after a while. The valve needs to be in the up position to get fluid through the valve, you'll only get a little if the axle is hanging down with car jacked up. You can tie wrap the valve closed while you bleed it
