OE replacement front dampers - 172

Some information in this thread regarding OEM parts and original manufacturers, with alternative part numbers. It's suggested that Monroe produced the original shocks: https://cliosport.net/threads/renault-clio-182-oem-parts-list.852434/#post-12690824

    Some expert thoughts - 182

I'd say you need to factor in at least £1k or so for those bits. The last belt service I had cost me around £950 with a couple of minor bits added, and this was around 3 years ago. Also, I'd say it depends on the current asking price. The seller may have priced the car correctly based on the...

    Some expert thoughts - 182

172 Cats were always worth around double the price of 182's, to my knowledge. But I could be wrong, they're certainly worth more anyway. The ktec exhaust is decent quality wise. Their cats only have a 6 month warranty, the last time I checked, which says it all, really. I've read a few stories...

    Some expert thoughts - 182

Rear sills are common for rust too, but usually you'd see bubbling in the lower rear arches before the sills are bad. Crunching into gear, typically into 2nd or 3rd gear is pretty common at high revs. If it does it'll need new syncros, not massively expensive if you can remove the gearbox...

RB 182 Cup - keeping this one

I've been advised to get the original shafts rebuilt. But after I'd already ordered the above J&R shaft. So I'll fit the J&R once it comes, and keep the original in the garage as a backup. Decided to leave the passenger side for now, to keep initial cost down. I do have a spare CV boot in the...

RB 182 Cup - keeping this one

Spent a bit of time this weekend removing the coilovers, seats and roll cage. Found the issue with the ABS, a broken ABS ring: Also noticed the CV boot is starting to leak grease, I replaced this is 2021 with a stretch boot, and remember is being a nightmare. So with that in mind, I'm...

RB 182 Cup - keeping this one

In hindsight, I probably should have arranged to drive up and view the car, but I'd have likely still bought it if I had, as I feel like it was cheap enough. I guess time will tell. It could very well become a money pit. I've got the new battery now, but I'll probably not fit it until the...

RB 182 Cup - keeping this one

It's pretty frustrating, as in my case, I'd travelled 5 hours on the train (x4)/bus door to door, and it was around 10pm by the time I saw the car. The only way I'm getting home is with the car, or getting a hotel for the night and a train in the morning. Fortunately, I didn't spend a lot of...

    Daily bucket seat options

I went to GSM years ago to try out a bunch of seats, and for me the Mirco range was quite comfortable and well fitting. I'm 6 foot 2, and around 100kg, waist roughly 36 inches. At that time I ended up buying a pair of Corbeau Clubsports for £350, as they were so cheap, I think the Mirco's were...

RB 182 Cup - keeping this one

So the previous owner has turned it into a track car, with bucket seats bolt in cage, BC coilovers with track spec spring, aircon delete, etc. I'm going to remove a lot of this stuff and return it closer to standard. As the plan is to run this alongside my Z4, so it'll need back seats to take...

RB 182 Cup - keeping this one

Manage to give the car a quick first wash before it got dark yesterday. Still cleans up ok, but I didn't think it's been polished since I last did it, so it'll be getting a full detail at some point soon. First de modification done

RB 182 Cup - keeping this one

So after getting this thing back together and replacing a bunch of parts to refresh it, I listed it up for sale after a few months for what I thought was silly money, even during the covid bomb. I think it was only listed for a few days before it's sold. I noticed it was back up for sale last...

    "Road Legal" track car MOT

I've just MOT'ed my Z4, it's not a track car, but has bucket seats and aftermarket steering wheel, I spoke with the guy mot'ing it before hand, and he said the bucket seat was fine, but the steering wheel with the airbag removed would be a problem, so I just fitted the original steering wheel...

Definitive 20VT conversion topic? Up to date?

I think there are a few people on the Facebook groups that have done them. I've definitely seen the swap mentioned a couple of times recently. On the forum I can only recall one being done.

    2025 16 inch tyre choices

As Michelin now produces PS5's in 205/45/16, I'd run these without question. PS3 were never a great tyre to be honest, they were the best choice of a fairly limited selection of average tyres in 16" form. Personally i always ran AD08R's instead in 205/45/16, or 195/50/15 when using smaller wheels.

    Clio 182 vs 200 vs other 5k Weekend/Track Cars

Agree with the above. I've had 10 182's and more recently a 172 cup. Most people would say to get the 172 cup, but personally I'd go with a 182 with both cup packs or a 182 cup, as they have aircon, cruise, abs, etc. I I've also owned a couple of 130i's and a NC MX5 too, and both were great...

Restoring Little Bluey - my 182 FF ClioSport in Racing Blue

Having been lucky enough to own your black 182 for a short time, and seeing all the work you've now put into this car, I'm gutted for you that it's ended this way. But at the same time I know the new owner will be getting an awesome car. Looking forward to seeing a thread pop up in the future...

    The new TV thread

Noticed Richer Sounds were selling the 65" C4 for £100 less than JL, so thought I'd take my chances and submit a price match. Pretty cheekily, but got to be done right? Just got an email confirmation that they're going to give me a £100 refund. I was half expecting them to refuse to be honest...

    The new TV thread

Customer service was s**t to be honest. It's taken 3 weeks for me to get a voucher so that I could order a replacement TV. So because we'd paid using the Finance option, JL said they'd only issue the voucher to the finance company and that I'd need to chase them up to get the voucher issued to...

    The new TV thread

John Lewis gives a standard 5-year warranty with all their TV's, which was the main reason I ordered from them. I've not read their terms and conditions fully, but it states: If we can't repair your product, we'll replace it with the same model, or a model with an equivalent specification, in...

    The new TV thread

Randomly didn't turn on one evening. Engineer reckons it need a new screen, as one of the boards he suspected was the issue can only be offered with the screen. I did Google to try and find some cost of replacement, as I was hoping a new TV would be the outcome, and I couldn't find much, but...

    The new TV thread

So my 65" LG C1 (2021) packed in about 3 weeks ago, and I've just been emailed by John Lewis to say that the TV can't be repaired. So they've offered me a £1299 voucher to use in store to replace the TV. What's the current go to TV in this price range? John Lewis have the 65" LG C4 (2024) on...

    Coilovers options for 172 cup

I've still not pulled the trigger to be honest. But I have now fitted some solid top mounts, and I've also been working through the front end bushes and ball joints to freshen everything up, and it feels better, along with getting rid of a knocking noise I was chasing. I'm 99% set on the...

    172 cup front-end refresh parts

I've fitted Powerflex arb bushes in the past, and know they're fine. But at £95 for a set versus less than £10 for the Febi ones above, I can't justify the extra cost. Plus, I'm sure the Febi one will likely outlast the time I keep the car. I suspect the ones on it are original and 22 years old now.

    172 cup front-end refresh parts

Update on this, I ended up ordering lower ball joints from ECP, as this was causing my front-end knocking noise. Part numbers above are correct. Link for ECP: https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/lemforder-ball-joint-617745225 Also, as I'm having new tyres fitted today, and the tracking was out...

What's your favourite car related YouTube channel?

I guess it's more costly to crash on track than it is on the road from a financial point of view? Do you also get charged for recovery if you break down on track? His V8 E36 is pretty cool too.

Restoring Little Bluey - my 182 FF ClioSport in Racing Blue

I scratched one of my side panels, trying to put the front bumper back on, on one of my previous 182's years ago. If I were doing it again alone, I'd probably just throw some masking tape on there to protect the side panels.
