You can do them with out the tools ALOT quicker, for the garage to turn the job down is amazing, ive never done a 172/182 but i've done a good few renaults and nearly all the special renault tools can be replaced by a tipex pen and a lever bar ;) a mate of mine has actually done a belt on a 182...
