172 knocking!

the saga continues!

the knocking from standstill acceleration and braking to halt has worsened. now the car REALLY bangs when setting off (from middle of engine bay at bottom) and it knocks like hell when u let off accelerator like constant 'knock, knock, knock.............' feels like something snapped and banging against driveshaft or sumthin.

gettin sick of this car now. 1 year hassle free to 5 months of penalty points and constant breaking!!!!

could it be wishbone bush? some steering arm? car still drives ok just knocks and bangs - at moment.

right, if you have tried everything else then the gear box mount is next!

mine is doing the same since i changed the exhaust and put a decat on.

i think its the decat/manifold flange hitting the heat shield on top of the steering rack.

i phoned ktec up, who i bought the exhausts off, and they basically said bend the heat sheild out the way using a pry bar!

I also ordered an uprated bottom engine mount, I will try that and hope it cures the problem. hopefully it won't be the other engine mounts aswell.

mate you would not believe how much its gettin on my t*ts!!!! all the garages just palm me off and dont think they loo at it properly.

its really bad now tho, started knockin yesterday proper bad. like soound when u leave ur keys in washin machine and constant knockin. i sure someone checked the dogbone lower mount and said was solid but does feel like comin from there. cant it wreck my gearbox casing in worst case!?

if it was mounting tho, why does it knock like its spinning or somethin when i let off the accel??

Is it coming from one side?

Mine was doing this for ages also, I got the nearside lower suspension arm replaced, around £50 part from Renault.

i recently had this sort of problem and all it ended up being was a gearbox mouth BOLT had just completly snapped off so the engine was moving about too much cause the move annoying rattle

I had the top gearbox mount replaced on mine as a bolt had sheared also. Didn't do anyhting for the knocking though.

But replacing the top gearbox mount sorted out the axle trap/knocking when accelerating hard in first.

car is doin my head in! was knockin all last week and left it standing not drivin it all wekend and then drove it yesterday to take it gearbox place for a look and it FIXED ITSELF! then i driv eto manc today to get to work and as soon as i hit traffic it starts clickin again!
does it on hill starts too and when crawlin in traffic and reverse.
think the driveshaft i got from GSF was faulty?

or gearbox mounting? where is gearbox mount by the way?

theres one under the battery and one under the gearbox. open the bonnet and try and shake the engine with her hands if it moves a bit, i would say gearbox mount if it moves freely dog bone mount, does this knocking occur at over 5K rpm?

no happens all the time - not so much when accelerating/braking. only when let off the accelerator and drive, gets louder as come to a halt. driveshaft sounds like its half popped out
