172 ph1 or ph2

ive owned my ph1 for 6month now and very happy with its performance, but while used cars are so cheap im debating on buying a ph2. will it be quicker or not?

there is little to no difference in performance of a ph1 and a ph2. only differnce is the appearance and the extra features, personally i wouldnt, you will pay quite abit more and there is very little difference

172 Phase1 has a proper cable accelerator, none of this delayed electronic throttle crap in the phase2.

For this alone I'd rather have the Phase1. Plus IMO they look better too.

ph1 with a ph2 dash best of both. ph2 fly by wire throttle is slow and un-responsive. Fit a set of HIDS then the lights are as good as ph2 xenons.

ph2 172 weighs more than a ph1 but has the same power so obviously its going to be a little slower.

If you have a Ph1 .. why bother changing ? Spend the cash on some coilovers or a holiday or something..

It's the same car apart from the dash (who looks at the dash anyway !?) and the throttle. The Ph2 is marginally heavier, but just leave one shoe at home, problem solved.

Ph1 owners will say Ph1 is better, Ph2 owners will say Ph2s are better, i suggest driving a Ph2 and seeling if you prefere it

I had a 1.2 PH1 when I first passed but always preferred the PH2 shape.

I've had a number of other sinces (mainly fords :O) since then and I've bought a PH2 172 recently. I really like over the PH1, not for performance or anything like that I just prefer the way it looks.

Tbh as said in thread, rumour has it that ph1's are quicker.

In hind sight i would rather a ph1. Although its not worth selling mine to get one. And i would think thats the same concept with you.

Spend a ton on a RS tuner and see how you feel. Probably the best mod bang for buck on performance.

For me the Phase 1 is a cracking wee car, and for the money theres not alot of cars that handle and go as quick in a straight line imo!

Having owned them all, the ph1 is my preference. The interiors not great, but easily rectified if you're bothered. Nearly the same weight as a cup, but you get ac. On 15's, which they work better with. Mine comes in at under a ton with only slight strippage. Throttle cable is just more 'fun' as well. And if you're ever thinking of bodies etc, from what I've heard and been told ph1's always seem to make more power.
