182 climate control query!.......

Let me just start by saying the 182 is an amazing motor extremely impressed so far just coming up to 600 miles now....

The problem im having i know is only a little one, and that is when the engine is running and you turn on the climate control i get a really loud click/clunk from under the bonnett and the same when i turn it off.

Now the only reason i am querying this matter is coz my sister has a little (04) 1.2 16v with CC and hers doesnt make this noise at all not even a little bit!!

Must admit i didnt notice this noise at all since ive had it i only noticed it today. Could this be my first problem or do all your 182s do it?...............

Cant say I have noticed any clunk on mine Rob, I do notice the drop off in engine performance when it is on tho!!!!

havent noticed any drop in performance mate, was weird though it doesnt do the noise if its turned onto ignition only but as soon as the engine is running you can really hear it , only when the window is down or you are outside.........

Its the air conditioning unit turning on mine does it on my 172.

I cant hear any clicking when using mine, but guess it could be the a/c unit kicking in?

Can tell the performance drop ever-so-slightly, although its nowhere near as noticeable as in my previous Hondas/Rovers!

Im not overly worried, it all works which is the main thing.. Just wondered how many of them do it?? Bit strange that some do and some dont, like i said my sisters doesnt even make a slight click..........

mine does it, it sounds a bit like the vents are closing inside when you turn it off as it does it when the ac isnt on... nothing to worry about though!

I currently have 206 gti (only for another week though) and the CC makes a clunking noise when you turn it on and off.

I believe its the compressor engaging.. as it isnt engaged all the time... Mine does it... My mates Laguna also does it.. you could even feel a little jolt when moving when it came it... they seem to calm down and become less noticable after a while though... I guess all the belts etc are still pretty tight..

^^ what he said, its meant to make a clicking/clunk noise, when you switch it off you might here another click and a spinning down noise if you listen carfully.

The compressor takes its power from the engine via a clutch sound like its disengaging and re-engaging as it should due as under certain conditions it has to ie on start up full throttl eetc.

If its very noticable it might need adjusting or fixing etc but if its only slightly noisy Id leave it its a Renault characterisic having random noises.

Your sisters car though has a smaller clutch compressor I would imgaine or soemhting which might account for the noise.
