182 coilovers into 182 cup coilovers

Don't know if this has already been covered, but my understanding is that the hub bolt spacings are different on the standard 182 to the 182 cup coilovers.

What is stopping and has anyone tried just machining the hole into a slot to allow you to bolt them on ?

My concerns are there might not be enough meat left in the fixing plate and may compromise the strength of the plate.

Other than that i presume that the only difference between the 2 coilovers are the hub bolt spacings ?

Has been done, but really is not the best option!
