182 with NO problems...

Ive been reading all the posts lately about 182s....

Running rough at start up...

Teething problems, Rattles

High milage already on "new" cars,

Splitters not being fixed on...etc

When i bought my 182 3 months ago..i went to the dealership looking originally for a 172...in particular the extras seemed to entice me from my old 1.2 authentique..(STILL A NICE CAR)

When i arrived at the dealership, (WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF CLIOS), i happened to see a 182 on the salesfloor...polished up and looking the dogs...(never heard of or seen one before)

TWO BLOODY EXHAUSTS....!!....So i had to have it.!

£13900...with the salesman giving me the cup pack...

I could have been fleeced by these people but what topped it for me was that before leaving the dealership, they took the car in and added the front splitter (which i didnt even know existed) and gave me my mats, net and foam..!

NO RATTLES, NO SQUEEKS (AS YET),NO MISSING PARTS, 11 MILES ON THE CLOCK NEW??

Could this be due to it being a showroom car..????

This car has never provided one person with so little knowledge of renaults so much pleasure(ahem) But a bad influence pointed out by the girlfriend in the front seat nagging..!

Good to here.

After 7000 miles hopefully you wont get any new rattles. All my rattles kicked in around 3000 miles. (I have a 172).
Most of mine were related to the plastic interior not securely fitted. I sorted this my stuffing padding behind some of the plastic fittings. Not ideal but it worked very well for me.

I dont think its a case of the clios having major probs, mainly minor yet irritating problems - but think u still find whoever has got one loves it! I just had my 1st prob! only minor! a cracked pipe on power steering whihc was leaking fluid, only a 2min job but was irritating coz the part was in france and took a week to come over! STill just had it back today and im bloody loving it just dun a 1000 miles wiked!

Other than that though touch wood no problems and it was brand spanking new! Have fun with your new toy!

nice one mate, glad to hear youre enjoying the car!

Some small niggles on my 182 (nearly 1000 miles in 3 weeks);

- whilstling driver side mirror (at some speeds)
- a notch of resistance on the accelerator pedel when pushing it to the floor, which needs an extra shove of the foot to get past
- a buzzing from the dash near the windscreen (at some speeds)
- intermittent 3 bleeps of the alarm (known fault)

Do i care? Do i hell, am gonna take it in to (hopefully) get these sorted before too long but am just starting to open her up and having me some fun - its king ace!

This is just a kickdown to disengage the Cruise Control/Speed limiter. Dont need to push the pedal down that far under normal driving conditions.

also have same problems as you Andyg i found that the rattle from the windscreen area was coming from the tweeter covers and the whilstling from the mirror same problem here aint found fix for that yet. but all in all very good car. had it in bits the other day fitting dvd head unit and all went back ok but i would advise not doing this as their is sod all room behind the headunit to put any extra wires.

Had mine 10 days, only 1 strange problem which is with the cruise control.

Sometimes refuses to work. Turn the ignition off and restart seems to cure it.

Strange.

Fantastic car, really enjoying it.

RE: "This is just a kickdown to disengage the Cruise Control/Speed limiter. Dont need to push the pedal down that far under normal driving conditions".

Oh right, cheers n all that.. (but) are you sure, cos it occurs about 1cm before the pedal bottoms out (full compression, if you like:). Forgive my hignorance, but id have thought any touching of the accelerator wouldve de-activated the cruise setting... Dunno much about these 182s yet, but this doesnt _seem_ like an intentional design feature.

Does anyone else have this prob? You can test by flooring it without the engine running.. Tar much

AndyG,

In normal "speed holding" cruise control you can use the "normal accelerator" travel to increase speed.

But in speed limiting mode (light is red) then you have to go past the hesitant point to override the speed limiter etc.

Ive now covered 1000miles in my 6day old car and loving it, no probs so far.

I have had the same problem as pkimber with the cruise control. It is indeed a bit of a strange one.

Now done 10899 miles and so far so good. Nearly time for the first service!!!

Cheers CocoPops, will look into that!:)

Im pretty/very sure the cruise hasnt been on (or at least, not intentionally!) but will double check.. So, by this logic, if the cruise isnt on, methinks there should be no last-centimetre reistence when compressing the pedal, surely?? It is a bit of a pain having to stamp down even harder again when trying to floor it (god i must be v.weak!).

AndyG My cup does that also, (there is no cruise control on the cup...

Yes, that last 1cm makes no difference in "petrol power".

So it doesnt change the acceleration etc, it is simply a switch to disengage the cruise control. Hence its always there, its not "activated" as such by having the cruise control on.

Its on all of the 172/182/cup becuase they use the same pedal block, regardless of having CC or not.

No, it doesnt matter if the Cruise/speed limiter is on or not. Its actually a physical part of the accelerator assembly. Have a look and push your pedal down with your hand and youll see it.

Even when thrashing mine, I never touch it. You dont need to try and push the pedal through the floor. Its fly by wire.

errm its not a 182 but.. i have my 172 with 17k on the clock now and 10months of ownership (seems to clock miles up alot is this a fault ??). i must have redlined it in a least one gear on every journey. some times driving quickly (gulp ) on the limeter and cornering @ 70+ easily for upto 1.30mins of solid driving. i really have given this car a decent ammount of stick + highspeed cruising and town driving. i have only experienced rattles which curiously are not there on some journeys. i think the RS clios are built well under the bonnet but its just the interior/electricals on some cars that are crappy.

BTW just been upto the Dales in the 172 with GF for a few days.. wow those roads are awesome and perfectly designd for a small responsive car like the clio. dont think ferraris etc.. are capable of such tight tiny road action, really cant stree enough how much fun it was. try it out.. on the way to settle + skipton if you know where i mean.
