197/200 boot rattle - neat fix!

  197CUP
Sure this may have popped up before but I struggled to find it so this may help some people;

Had my 197 for about 3 weeks really happy with it apart from one annoying rattle coming from the boot which has been bugging me since buying it! Found it tonight - turns out its the boot catch rattling against the metal loop.

I've wrapped some black electrical tape round it (3 or 4 times) this has stopped my rattle and it also make a much nice noise when you shut the boot as before it went with a fair old clatter!

Hope this is helpful to someone as it has been to me!

Quite a common problem mate, the tape trick seems to be the most used method to fix it too.

I slackened the striker plate off and adjusted it towards the front of the car a few mm so it pulled the boot in more. Worked a treat

Sounds like you've done it the right way and I've done it the easy way lol - seems to have done the trick for now though so I'm pleased :D

Interesting! I have a mk3 non sport and this has annoyed the piss out of me since owning it! Think I'll give the tape a go, can't be arsed with faffing around with moving the plate :p

I moved the plate originally, but it only helped for about 2 or 3 weeks. Tape has been on for months now and it's been perfect!

Crappy bolts or not enough torque !?

Strikers shouldn't loosen after 10 years let alone 10 minutes...

Sort it out Renault, FFS. :dapprove:

At work ATM mate but I'll take a quick one for you tonight and post it - it's basically just the metal loop that the boot lid locks down onto. Right infront of you when you open the boot - can't miss it

Very common fault on all mk3's. another way of fixing it is to put a bit of grease on the moving parts on the locking mechanism.
