2 litres of oil in 3k

  monaco 172
As title. Is 2 litres of oil in 3000 mile mean my stem seals are probably knackered?

Car runs fine , pulls well and still does 43mpg on a long run.

isit likely to go pop anytime soon? I change the oil every 5k anyway so it's not a massive issue cost wise.

No leak, little bit around the rocker cover but nothing major.

If I do a compression test what value is good and what's too low?

Top it back up and see how you get on. If it continues to drink oil then try and get a leak down test to see where its exactly losing from. You don't want to go to the trouble of pulling the bottom end apart if its only the head which needs a freshen up.

I don't buy into the Renault acceptable oil use figures. Mine never used to drink a drop of oil well into the 100K's

BMW say their acceptable level of useage is 1L per 1000 miles.

If your car hasn't got more thirsty for oil over the last 3 years I wouldn't worry about it personally.

Nah I wouldn't say it's got any worse, I just notice it more because I'm doing a few more miles now than I used to.

Cheers guys. Doesn't sound like its going to be a Major issue then.

Can't believe the manufacturers say those values are within tolerance though, seems crazy, especially for your motorist that hasn't got a clue and probably never checks oil.

The manufacturer tolerances are a bit of a cop out really, a litre per 1000 miles or even worse kms is a real pain. What oil are you using?

Cheers

Tim
