2003 172 cup gearbox problems

Hi folks i have just bought a clio 172 cup on a 53plate and 1st gear is starting to decide some times that it doesnt want to engage, i know that the gear boxes are prone to failure what do you suggest get it rebuilt ? and whats the cost gonna be ? cheers

IIRC, you won't come out the better side of £400 to have Agency do your box - that's not forgetting the £300 you're likely to spend having the gearbox removed and refitted at even the cheapest garage.

It's surely worth a quick look at the linkage and/or clutch first, too?

How can you say that,you cannot just go jumping with any old figure that you've made up.

They have been known to do a full referb for less than that.

I was quoted over £400 for an inspection and diff bearings replaced.
