Renault Clio MK3
Hi guys, new to the forum here and just would like to pick some of your brains and ask for some advice!
So, for my first car, I bought a 1.6 MK3 Clio, the previous owner's have had it since new, with no records of service history etc. At first it was temperamental to start, so I changed the crankshaft sensor (common amongst Renault's) and a full set of NGK spark plugs. However, when the car starts up there is a very noisy rattling sound coming from the engine. Some body has said that the starter motor solenoid isn't bringing the pinion off of the flywheel, but someone suggested that the lack of oil changes and no cam belt history could suggest that a hydraulic tappet has failed/vernier pulley? The rattling noise isn't always there, it is there maybe 50% of the time. There is no loss in power, emissions are fine, it's not smokey, no loss of water or excessive fuel consumption.
I am an apprentice mechanic which brief knowledge, I'm yet to discover more in the automotive industry but I thought I'd revert to some Clio owners!
Regardless of it's history, I will be changing the oil when it is red hot when I land back off of my holiday. Leaving it to drain for a few hours, changing the oil filter once again, so in theory I would have serviced it in two sittings to ensure I removed the majority of the old engine oil.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated as I want to get this fixed as soon as possible, as a 17 year old I paid for this car entirely by myself and wouldn't want it to have been a waste. Other than this issue it's been as good as gold.
Once again, many thanks.
