2nd car runabout Q please

  172 cup TT
Hi - didn’t know where to put this bit so mod, please move ifs this is wrong.. Ta

I will be driving around an old banger, an absolute sh!t heap for a little while because the use of the car I was borrowing needs to be given back…

I bought the car and put it in my otherhalfs name. My insurance allows me to drive other cars on my policy so all is good.. Problem is, tax is due at the end of this month and unsure IF I will be able to re-tax it… I have the MOT which isnt a problem, but when I have to show insurance - what do I show as my other half obviously hasn’t insured the car as she has her own car… Do I show MY insurance docs which show I can drive other cars or what?

You are probably thinking why I didn’t sign it in my name.. Well, its to save hassle really… I called my insurance company and wouldve had to start an additional brand new policy etc etc, and I only need the car whilst my cup is in "surgery" and this old dog is literally falling apart but mechanically is sound so it seems much a muchness… The car being in my otherhalfs name means I can drive it no probs (3rd party only of course)..

Any ideas / advice?

Thanks chaps

So does this car have insurance itself?

Sounds to me like the car is uninsured anyway so rightly so you will not be able to tax it.

As said if the car itself doesn't have a policy it is uninsured. Even if you can both drive other vehicles on your own policy the car has to be insured by someone first.

The car will be registerd with no-insurance - not good.

Just add it on as a additional vehicle onto your policy.

I'll be getting a cheap mondeo or similar for the summer when I got to do 250mile round trip for work each day, then once the job is finished sell it on for similar peanuts I paid for it hopefully.

ah!!!! damn... last thing i want to do is something illegal, christ.

Maybe its best to put it in my name then and add it as an additional vehicle to my policy... My problem i guess is Time.. DVLA havent returned the new log book to my otherhalf yet.. Once she gets that i will then need to send it back AGAIN to change it to my name!...

As its the 10th of March now i hope all this happens before the 31st (when the tax is due!)... bloody motors...

EDIT: Could i keep it in her name, and insure it in My name as an additional vehicle??!..

when you get the log book back if you then send it off in your name you can tax it with the slip that you keep from the log book.

Depends on the insurer. Some will, some wont.

gotcha!! yeh course i could.. forgot about that...

i think im just going to get it insured in my name and say the details are being sent to DVLA as we speak... thats what is done when you purchase a car isnt it anyway...youd never have the V5 in your hand back from DVLA before driving a car you have just bought...
