4 wheel drive on a clio

  Clio 172 MK II
everything is possible
the only question is:
can you pay for that
or
do you have knowledge to do it yourself and save some money

  02' PH1 172
maybe slap another engine in the back and somehow convert your rear axle and stuff to the one that you have infront?? twin engine 4x4 :)
there was a guy down here who did it to a mk1 golf

  Mk4 XR3i 90 - spec
Front subframe welded in the back with engine etc, like Stevo is doing but with engine in front as well.

Other than that it's pretty much designing a new car based on a clio shell.

Step 1: Buy Subaru Impreza
Step 2: Buy Clio
Step 3: Graft subaru running gear into clio chassis

Easy peasy.

Truth be told, the above is actually fairly easy, mainly just fabricating mounts and altering the clio floor plan to accept the subaru running gear.

The hard part is getting it to handle remotely acceptably

  Lots of Alfas
Didnt they do a renault kangoo 4x4, some bits from that may be useful, to be honest it would cost an absolute fortune, I dont think its been attempted before.

you would just use the scooby floorpan.

(not using subaru as a base)its not difficult at all if you're not fussed about the renault electrics.
if i were to do it i'd probably base it on a ford.. siera floorpan or something then if you wanted to use the renault engine still you'd have to get a bit creative.
its all doable if you know how and have the money

I dont think its ever worth running two engines as your killing the power to weight. Like the guy mentioned above getting it to handle correctly would be the hard part unless your building it on a set of corner weight scales.

Put a 172 engine in the front of a v6?

Remember someone made that mk1 clio with an evo engine and driving gear, then put a s**t body kit on it.

There are (were) a few companies around years ago who'd do sierra cosworth conversions in the fiesta which could be rwd or 4wd, I've actually seen a MK1 fiesta with a rwd conversion.

Like it's been said you can do it but to do a nice job it'd be best to use Renault parts otherwize it's just a kit car with a clio shell (well, that's the way I look at it) if it is renault throughout, I can't think of a readily available 4x4 renault which'd be any good to use as donor and provide enough poke to be worth doing. And I dont like twin engined cars.

I helped put a rover v8 in an mg years ago and learned then how much work is involved in what I would regard as a fairly simple job. A 4x4 clio would be awsome but not easy or cheap to do.

Is the Scenic 4WD based on the Clio, or is it completely different? Do they share any parts?

  Mondeo TDCI 130
There are 4x4 rallycross clios around, have a look around, it is possible! its the $$$$ that you need!

  Williams20V-306BHP
Spaceframe'd Clio with Scooby running gear...

could be done for 3-4k plus the Clio. If only Matt Black lived closer to me. lol

Dimmo and other companies used to do 4wd cosworth conversions iirc, didn't Dimma do a cossie conversion for the Clio?

  MERCEDES CLS AMG
In theory ??

Bolt a JC7 gearbox up from a scenic 2.0 16v RX4 and the fabricate a transmission tunnel in the clio body shell. Fit the RX4 prop and back axle. Trouble is the RX4 chews the JC7 boxes up with its version of the 140 bhp F4R engine so it wont last 2 mins with the 172bhp clio unit ( unless you strengthen them )
