98/95 Ron

Ive read all the previous threads regarding pinking and the ECU on the 172. Does anyone have any experience of running the 172 engine long term on 95 RON fuel? The reason I ask is cos my Leon Cupra recommends 98 Ron quoting slight power loss only if you use 95. On seatcupra.net loads of people only use 95 Ron, so I have for 18 months with no ill effects.

I think it has some kind of sensor that automatically adjusts the ignition (or whatever it does) to what type of fuel your running.

Obviously though, better petrol - more power!

Correct Tom... its called a knock sensor and yes the 172 can run on 95 octane fuel without any problems...

Cheers Rich, I think I may try 95 after a while. Although I normally fill the cars, if I tell her not to put ordinary unleaded in she might think diesel is a good plan:D
