Advice

Hi Guys

I usually wash my 172 weekly, mainly with Auto Glym products.
Usually a good wash with the shampoo, dry and a polish using SRP etc.

How often should I be polishing my car, is weekly too much? Should I generally wash weekly and polish monthly? I just want to ensure the paintwork is as protected as it can be, then again i dont want to over do it.

After reading through the forum I have seen some of these Dodo juice write ups, this stuff looks good, should I be using something like this rather than the SRP ? I know that stuff is colour coded so what colour would I need for my silver 172? Not quite sure of the exact colour of the car but it does have a hint of blue in it.

Cheers

SRP is a polish, supposedly it lightly fills any swirls but offers no protection. after SRP it's best to use the auto glym extra gloss protection to seal the paint and then use a wax such as the dodo juice or auto glym HD wax to protect the finish. once that's done regular plain washing and topping up of the wax should keep it looking good.
There is a guide in here somewhere that explains all the stages properly.

I wash, clay, tar remover, SRP, EGP, then wax with HD wax 2 - 3 times a year. wash regularly, detailing spray, maybe another coat of wax couple of times a month.

Check the guide to detailing thread in the sticky'd section.

Random question, but does egp not act like a wax?

Or is it good to use wax on top?

What waxes are good for blue paintwork? (that are easy to apply/ cheap)

Dan, EGP is a sealent. Depends on what you are after pal. EGP will offer up to 6 months protection on a well looked after car. However, there are better products out there that are easier to apply and remove (Chem Guys Blitz Spray for example).

Wax wise, mainly for looks (over a sealent). P21s is easy to apply and remove and lasts well. Excellent looks etc. So is Natty's Blue, but doesn't last as well.

Budget pal?

Yes polishing each week is too often, mainly for your arms and time, rather than paint. SRP will not polish your car as well as many other polishes, mainly because it is a filler polish as the other gent in the thread has mentioned.

If you are trying to achieve protection, SRP->sealent/wax. The sealent and wax gives the protection, not the polish.

edit; re wax, there are some that give better results on different colours. Not a fan of the DJ waxes, unless you're talking the £100 Super Natural wax.

Again, depends on budget.

I never did like Purple Haze, Supernatural is great though. Not as great as Glasur which is in the same price bracket mind.

I refer you to my previous comments in another thread;

"my love juice offers more protection than DJ waxes - unless you're talking SN".

Hi Guys

Thanks so much for all your feedback, really helped.

I think I will give the Wash>SRP>EGP>HD process a go and see how that all pans out!

Thanks again!
