Airbag resistor didnt work? Help please!

  1.2 16v
Hi,
Just had my car on a diagnostic machine to clear air bag fault, had the 3.3ohm resistors in as per the guide on here said open circuit on both front seats and couldnt delete, tried disconnecting battery and reconnecting and same. Took the resistors out and plugged the seats into the car loom and again said could not delete faults.
Any idea? Got my MOT soon so needs done. Was thinking trying a higher resistance? Would wire bridging them work?
Thanks in advance!

If you fancy a trip to Nottingham i'll fix it for you.

Resistors didn't work on my old ph1 either. Also tried higher sec ones and they started smoking!

Haven't got time for a trip to Nottingham :( can inbox me how to do it for a small fee if you want :) haha don't fancy it to start smoking!

I don't need to PM you. I would reconfigure the SRS Modules config... for a fee of £20 but if you don't want to travel then that's okay.

Clearly doing something wrong I've done it on my air bag for steering wheel and seat belt tensioners, are they deffo correct resistors as people often get 3.3k or 3.3m instead of 3.3r

I got the ones from maplin m3r3 but i think i know what ive done wrong, on the black plug coming from car my red bit has snapped off and i never put it back on going to go try that now may have some effect

The guide is WRONG

You need 2.2K-2.7K ohm resistors. Ideally a 2.5K

not as far as im aware im using 3.3 ohm and they work perfect allthough the removed components do measure 2.5ohm they are no where near you figure of a thousand times greater your quoting as a direct replacement for the components removed ie airbag and pretensioner indicator signal 3.3 ohm is fine not sure why you would need to be using 2200-2700 ohms its only a signal that goes back to the controler to say the device hasn't activated ie gone open cucuit and the figures youve quoted are not to far off being open curcuit ???????

I find with most of these the airbag light comes back on because the resistor isn't making a good connection in the plug.

If you know anyone with clip who can deconfigure them, get them to do it. that's the best way, their never come on then.

If you do the connections right first time you just dont get a problem period, you need to double fol dthe legs and insert them or use a terminal block to connect them to.

Very true. The problem is most people just stick them in without doubling up and tape them up.

Me personally I just use clip.

its a live system, no need to delete the faults, light will turn off on its own when they are the right way round

The resistors I listed in the guide I've used for both steering wheel and seats, as have vast majority of people, and worked first time and have never come on in two years.
As said the system is live, I wiggled the resistors till the airbag light went off then taped them in place.

So the airbag light should just go off? Not need cleared with a diagnostic machine? If all fails ill just cut the plug off and solder the resistor in place

Only fault on car is showing as open ciruit in both front seats, been and double checked they are making good contact and wiggled about but not got far as the light is still on! Going to get some new ones maybe try some higher and lower resistance and if nothing last resort will be to solder. dont want to be lobbing off plugs just yet

youve either got the wrong ones or they are not making good contact could be the cable breaking down somewhere, plug the seat belts back in to check the light goes out and pull the battery off for 10 mins while you do it.

I have m3r3. But I am going to grab a tester from work tomorrow and double check these! Be raging if I have the wrong ones, Seatbelt prestensioner is all connected I.e the light comes on when not plugged in and goes off when plugged in. Starting to annoy me how it wont just go off!

Then they defo give you the wrong resistors, a tester will also detrmine this to remember 3.3ohm

Pretensioner on drivers side plugged in, don't have one on passenger side cause its a non sport, put resistors between the coloured wires on both plugs , tested resistors both reading as they should

Just connected the 2 wires and no more lights! My ignorance to them wires played a massive part! Cheers for the help, got spare resistors is anybody needs some

I was going to say definitely sounds like it as both seats have pretensioners in all models!
Its only the seat position sensor that is just on the drivers side.

Glad you got it sorted - eventually!

I did find out okay that my drivers side has two sensors one is 3.3 ohm the other is different not sure why but it needed a little mock up circuit but now is fine.
