Alarm Test / Problems - help

  Clio 172
Hi

I've just picked up my 172 (finally!) but want to test to make sure the alarm works as i'm abit dubious about it. It has cabin sensors, Toad LED thing by the gear stick and the large siren thingy under the bonnet. How can I go about setting it off on purpose? I've tried sitting in the car and opening the bonnet while the car is locked but no joy!

Cheers

Tom

open a window, close the door, lock it wave ur arms around inside should test the ultra sonics failing that, then open the door from the inside with it locked, this should also set it off.

OK, will do. How long does it take to set? I waited in the car for about 3 or 4mins and waved my hands around....nout!

Any common problems as to alarm failure?

Wind down the drivers window, get out of the car shut the door and press the remote to lock it.
Wait 20 seconds then put your arm through he window and wave it around. if that doesnt set it off, pull the inside handle to open the door, if that doesn't set it off, its broken or not setting correctly.

The Clio's immobilser works independently of any alarm and is set when you take the key out of the ignition lock, confirmed by the LED on the instrument panel flashing.

The bas***ds told me I'd get a years tax as well, but only 6months on it! O, and Lumbar support adjust doesnt work either! lol. Apart from that loving the 120 miles I've done today!

Go and make a lot of noise when they have other punters in the show room, that always gets their attention.....

you HAVE to wait for a minute for the alarm to set properly.
i know the factory fit cobras take a minute to become 'active'
Toads you have to wait aswel.
Lock yourself in the car, and dont move for a minute, then start waving and flailing around like a mad man.

Yes OK, I'll video myself waving around like a mad man and post it up for you all to see :)

Went down this morning, booked in for Wednesday to have a look at, if nothing obvious then they're going to install a new system - to be fair there isn't much more they could have done and they're doing it without any argument. So a dealer actually doing what they're supposed to? Shock horror!! lol

I would wait till you get the car back before bigging up the dealer Tom, ;)

HaHa, this is true! They are, however, getting in a outside guy to do it - they don't fit after market alarm systems so at least they shouldnt be touching the car!

I'm getting a Sigma alarm fitted, any good? Apparently part of the same group that owns Toad?

Sigma are good. British design. Used by BMW, Subaru, and its Renaults accessory fit make. used by just about every London Black Cab, its the only one approved by the Public Carriage office.
