...and I though being keyed was bad...

  Megane R26
I went to my friend's house tonight, parked outside their house in the street. 5 minutes later I hear an almighty bang and a car alarm going off... it sounded like mine.

As I dashed to the window I saw a light blue Ka which has been reversed into my car from the driveway opposite. He then proceeded to speed off!!

So, I very calmly (somehow!) walked across the street and knocked on the door of the house. It turns out that it was a 19YO kid. I was told he wouldn't have sped off and would have stopped if he'd heard the impact... and alarm...

Anyway, his Mum went to get him and when he got back he was too scared to get out of his car at first, until his Dad got there. Luckily he admitted full responsibility and I have his details, and we are both with the same insurer.

How does the process work from here? Do I just call them tomorrow and inform them? Do I have to find my own bodyshop? Someone said I will have to pay my excess - I don't see why I should, is that right?

I wasn't angry at the time, the lad was obviously sorry and started crying, but driving home not being able to see out of my wing mirror didn't help, and now I'm seething.

Bad times.

I'd like to see you detail that you fucker! lol!! ;)

Just ring your insurers, they will sort everything. You won't have to pay any excess as his insurers will cover everything.

LOL, what's surprised me more is how badly hologramm'd the bottom looks from me wiping it over - bloody soft paint lol

I just hope it gets sorted quickly :(

That sucks b@lls but at least you have the guy's details !

Speak to your insurance company .. they sort it all out for you, claiming the lot off him. You won't pay a penny. (speaking from experience here when mine got moved 3 ft sideways in a carpark)

If it was just a little bumper swipe, maybe it'd be worth getting it done privately.. I'd definitely get that done properly through insurance.

Good luck :)

I don't mean to steal everyones good luck!

Why does everyone around me have bad luck!?!?

I'm convinced I'm the good-luck-thief!!!

Keep away people!!! lol

Yeah, the door has a massive crease in it which you can't see in the pics and the wing mirror is battered.

The stickers alone cost over £100 which is also scratched to hell. Gotta be £2k's worth!

Swirls.. indeed... gotta love soft as cheese black cars :)

I would love to know how he didn't hear the alarm/feel the impact. Good job you witnessed it with the lad driving off like that.

Leave it to the insurance and you'll get it repaired and looking like new. Hope you get it sorted soon as its a beautiful car :)

Good tyre choice. Personally, I would use an accident management company. They make sure you get a car equivalent to yours while it's being repaired. Under no circumstances let nationwide accident repair near your car. Utter cowboys.

Thanks Warren - can you recommend a specific one please? How do they work?

The Hankook's are superb - people seem to snub them because they are 'cheap' but they are easily as good as the Conti's in the dry and better in the wet, and will probably last longer too!

Thanks Warren, I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Cheers Christopher. I'm really gutted. It'll probably go for an R26 now...

You can insist on a renault approved bodyshop. hope it sorted soon chap.

+1

My 197 got bumped about a month ago, I used an accident management company called swift, I went to a Renault bodyshop and got a quote, rang swift and arranged repair, The next day i had a 09 plate Golf GTI 2.0 Turbo courtesy car, My 197 took 10 days to repair as was waiting for parts but swift kept me updated every step, On completion i dropped the Golf off and drove off in the 197, They claim all repair and hire charges off of the 3rd party so its simple... I'm insured with Admiral BTW and i just called them letting them know what was happening and they were fine with it

I've gone with my insurer so far - they have waived my excess, have let me choose a bodyshop, and I am getting a Group F car of similar size and engine size... so it shouldn't be tooooo bad :)

If you have any minor stone chips they will do those aswell i guess.

Sorry to hear the news. It seems ppl are using hit n run tactics lately as i seen a woman reverse into a parked car near the tip and i asked her are you going to leave details to wich she ignored me and drove off.

I promptly recorded all details and dropped it to the owner.

Good Luck with the damage.

AS far as i am aware you pay your excess, and then their insurance refunds you, thats what happens to some of our customers when i return their car.

Probably differs, to different insurance companies.

  Megane R26
I've been told I don't need to pay my excess as he has accepted liability and is with the same insurer :)

  TTRS & V50
Must differ then. Im 100% sure i had to collect excess's from customers and they were ranting and raving how they should not have to pay their excess as it was not their fault. Mind you, our body shop was working with random insurance companies.

The night before, one of his 'friends' in an MG ZR 1.4 took a roundabout a little outside of his limit and nearly rammed me off the road.

Happy times in Cannock!
