Finally caved and bought something new to bolt on to the Clio. Gaz Gold with custom 550 / 500 springs. Plus PMS solid top mounts and strut brace to replace the Cup shock/ Cook sport set up.

Fitted the Gaz Coilovers, probably a little to play with the ride height as not 100% sure where it should sit and best for handling.

At the moment it’s a little lower at the front than the back measuring off the chassis (although it looks like it sits lower at the back).

something to play with. PMS solid top mounts and strut brace also fitted.

Alignment sorted. This place came recommended and didn’t disappoint. Aline, Dudley 👌(plus the steering wheel is now dead centre which was doing my head in since I fitted it!)

Even on a wet, slow drive home the car feels like a little kart, steering seems so direct (but still drivable to drive to the track).

Looking forward to going back to Cadwell on Thursday- dancing to the weather gods for a dry day!

After the 5th gear sync eventually gave up on the way back from Cadwell Park, I headed to my mate at KingSwinford motor services today to fit a temporary gearbox.

The one fitted seems ok, but will get the old box reconditioned to former glory and refit when I can.

Whilst the subframe was out fitted new front roll bar Powerflex Black bushes.

Swapped out the old bonnet for a new one. The only one that had all the structure cut away and was flexing and all bent (was a bit worried it would pop the hinges eventually).

Just need to get it painted now

Rad day at Bedford today. Had a great play with the new Gaz Gold suspension and changing tyres.

Been running Yokohama Ad08 R on the front and RS on the rear. In the morning I ran the RS on the front and R on the rear, swapped round for the afternoon- Nearly 5 seconds a lap quicker (lot less understeer).

Also first dry day running the Gaz Gold shocks. Raised the back end 15mm after a few runs and sorted the balance nicely!

little Clio ran well all day, my mate took his Clio 182 Cup for a virgin track day. Going to go to the Blyton Park French magazine day later next month for a next outing.

Will end up fitting a half cage around some point Soon. But in the mean time fitted this harness bar to make sure the harness angles are ok.

So far seems to be tidy. Back to EFI Parts this week for a new map now the cam timing/ belts done, valves repaired and a new working lambda sensor so hopefully get it mapped to be run as nice as it can before performance French track day at Blyton the end of the month.

First day trying the Toyo R888, Started to suffer with some bad understeer after a few laps, wasn’t sure if it was just a slippy track, the set up or tyres. Will have a play with ride height this weekend and then try again at a track evening at Donington this week so will see. I

Here’s me following the lad from the YouTube channel camber and combustion, was an entertaining few laps:

Busy few weeks at work, so just spent a little bit of time on the Clio recently, Just waiting for a new exhaust to arrive as found a few small holes in the current on. Probably could have repair, but got blinded by newness. Also had the gearbox reconditioned by universal transmissions in Kidderminster (great lads) and have a Pure Motorsport shifter to fit too.

Before all that, had a good day at a very wet Cadwell Park. Can highly recommend Uniroyal rainsports!

Bit of time in the garage today to fit some parts.

- Pure Motorsport Exhaust
- Pure Motorsport Shifter
- x4 new genuine injectors
- oil and oil filter change
- clean and check spark plugs

Had a cracked exhaust in the old Scorpion Exhaust, the PMS system is a work of art. (Sounds incredible too, quiet, but a nice rasp)

New PMS shifter is amazing too, feels so much better and the Clio is running 90% better now. Just in time to park it up for a while!

That does look good! Have you got some pics of the exhaust with the exhaust tips on? Which ones did you decide to get?

3’ Slashed tips, wasn’t 100% a fan before they were fitted, but they look great in my opinion (and the exhaust sounds amazing)

Exhaust looks great, it’s on my list of upgrades for next year I think now. Be worth investing in some of the ProAm exhaust mount plates in stainless I believe they are slightly shallower so would close the gap between the tailpipe and bumper up nicely.

Ah thanks, the mounts were little buggers to get off As they were a little past their sell by date. so may have a look when I’m on the next purchase wave (and can get some ramp time again, makes it so much easier than on a gravel drive)!!

That does look so good! Thanks for the pics.

Just got an email from Nick at PMS that the exhaust system is in stock again and their cats are in their way so might have to have a look in the next couple of weeks. Can't decide on straight/slash cut and shiny or brushed tips though!

I thought I ordered straight, but happy how they turned out and look when they are on the car. Awesome but of kit so far (and goes together easy!)

Awesome day at Oulton Park yesterday, new exhaust sounds awesome and more importantly the engine feels so much more drivable and perky. After a damp start (it then rained), a dry line formed in the afternoon and the car felt amazing, huge change from last time we were here. Can’t wait to get back out.

Few little electrical gremlins to sort now (ABS light and indicator fuse blown), then start considering some safety with a roll cage/ half cage.

Rad to see so many other clios out.

Few clips from yesterday,

Socially distancing behind my mates Civic

Last track day of the year at Donington on the 18th. Great day despite the rain all day. Ran Rainsport 5’s all day and they performed amazingly. Have a minor issue with the ABS not working, but that is was ok once I got use to it.

Since buying the car last year I think I managed 12 days this year in the car and it’s been amazing. Been a awesome year to constantly improve the car a little and just about notice it. Never thought I could afford to actually drive on tracks, although it’s not cheap it’s worth every penny.

Plans over Christmas to fit the fully refurbed gearbox (as it crunches in 3rd with this spare box I fitted- will refurb this one too- may save the pennies and fit a dif, if I get really into things). Will also sort the minor electrical gremlins out.

Placed an order for a rear 1/2 cage to be build (and fitredby Fulcrum Cages (option to make it a full cage in the future), just to get rid of the harness bar and a little safety.

Time to swap the gearbox back from the spare back to the fully refurbed one. Whilst it’s out we may as well change the clutch (genuine Renault clutch) just in case and add a bit of Bling (Shame you will never see it!) pure motorsports flywheel.

Out with the old and in with the new.

gearbox swapped, pure motorsport flywheel fitted, new OEM clutch, new aluminium heat shield made and fitted and the Clio is running like a beauty.

New front Brake pads ordered and ABS sensor for both side too. Booked in to get the half cage fitted too for post lockdown from Fulcrum Motorsport.

plus a fresh MOT for 12 months.

I really like this, Good to see you using it properly too!
Ill be interested in how the Fulcrum cage looks. I’ve seen a few online and they do look good. Is it being welded in or just having the boxes welded in and then bolted?

Top marks for Nukeproof’s too, I thought I recognised your name haha (y)

just had it fitted today, can’t recommend Tom at Fulcrum high enough! Will get a load of photos tomorrow. Had the half cage, with fixing if I do want to make it a full cage in the future, finished in anthracite grey.

Balls... first track day of the year at Cadwell didn’t go as planned. Few laps done in the morning, but had a death rattle as I pulled off during a red flag, so needed a tow home.

Before this the car was amazing, was only doing a few cruisey laps just to bed all the changes in and get use to the track, surprised me how much grip there was there and so much more to .

Saved the block I hope... see what we can rebuild

Gutted to sell off some track time now! anyone want to buy a spot at an Donnington evening on the 26th May?
