Hi,

Now the snows all gone I'm fed up with having a dirty car, so gonna purchase some bits and bobs and get cleaning.

I'm gonna get a claykit and some SRP.
Should I get Autoglym HD Wax or Colli 845?

Cheers

I'd say 845 all the way! 2 layers and you will have a nice, glass-like shine and best protection in the +-15 pounds range!

I use it on my clio too.

2 layers? I only ever do it once and then wipe it off. More than one layer suggested?

@Jamie-> Yes you can layer your wax, two coats will give you a slightly deeper shine and some better protection. More than 2-3 coats won't make a difference though. It also makes sure that you have covered every little spot on the car.

@Kane-> (Did you change your screen name?). That car is my mates, but we applied 845 on there as well. He bought it for a steal, then crashed it two days after these photo's in October :( It's a 172 with full orbisoud race system, catcams, ported inlet, 182 manifold and custom fastchip mapping. I thought it had around 194 bhp.

Personally id go for something totally different if you dont have either. But if it has to be one or the other, AG stuff. I dont think too much to 845.

Usually go for the SRP -> EGP route but the results with 845 looks good, easy to apply?

Yep :) looks mint condition, shame about crashing it though, gutting :(

Personally neither.

HD Wax is not that good for the money.

845 is a great wax, for Winter. Granted we have another few weeks left of this weather, but it should warm up after that.

Depends on what you want from the last stage product; longevity, looks or both.

Ag hd is pretty poo imo the box looks good but it has no shine. What do you reccomend for a shine JD ? I wash my car weekly anyway so the length of time it stays doesnt really matter tbh.

Carbon is, or was before the VAT increase, circa £45. Same as Onyx and for the price I would go with Onyx.

However, 845 and HD wax are much lower in price.

The Jeffs kits are very good, a nice Carnauba spray sealant (Jeffs/Chem Guys Blitz) would last well and give the looks to make the BG pop.

Failing that, you are looking at a slightly more expensive wax which will last (Onyx/Carbon) or a less expensive wax that will not last as long (Natty's Blue)

Yeh the BG doesnt have much of a wet look in the sun with the hd, on my next order Ill give the carnauba a try, thanks.

is it best to apply in circular motion or line movements? also, been told to wet the applicator? just using my brothers autoglym hd wax :)

A lot of people seem to think of the 845 as a winter wax, probably because of it's long lasting protection. I don't know why it should just be used in winter really, since it also performed great on my previous car in summer conditions, it's not like the heat of the summer effected the protection or look of the 845 on my car. I do feel that it gives a 'glass-like' look, and not a warm look. No problem on silver cars, on dark coloured cars i applied 1 layer of 845 and one layer of Dodo Juice Austintacious Soft Wax. Great shine and great protection imho.

But..as with a lot of detailing products, personal prefferance comes into play as well. I find the Mothers FX Synwax also pretty underrated, contains a lot of fillers and performs as good as PB black hole 'glaze wise' on dark cars. Plus 2,5 months of protection, all for 12 pounds.

It can be an all round wax, I agree lad.

However for the price, I would go with something better looking in Summer. But hey, personal preference and experience :)

I have not found this makes that much difference to be honest. But could be a useful hint for a newbie.

I find it usefull when working with a hard wax, i mist my foam pad slightly with a QD spray.

And, i agree on a carnauba wax in summer... Hmmm... warm glow/deep shine/ wet-look!

Cheers for all the replies lads.

I know a lot of people rate 845 and many people on DW say that Autoglym HD is very underrated, hence me wanting to choose one of the two.

I normally give the car a wash every week so what I'm basically looking for in the wax/sealant is looks, not really longevity. Something that makes a silver car look nice but doesn't cost the earth as I'm not a full on detailer.

If you want the silver to pop out, you can also use ClearKote Yellow Moose wax, as an 'enhancer' on light paint colours. Works very well on silver/grey/white/light blue/light green, etc. You can see it as the step that you make before putting on your final wax.

Dodo Juice Austintacious is what I topped the Yellow Moose with.

Summer is the warmest of the four temperate seasons, between spring and autumn. At the summer solstice, the days are longest and the nights are shortest, with day-length decreasing as the season progresses after the solstice. The date of the beginning of summer varies according to climate, culture and tradition, but when it is summer in the southern hemisphere it is winter in the northern hemisphere, and vice versa.

:rasp:

Nope, nothing like that in this country ;)

Natty's Blue still looks superb on all colours, but it doesn't last that well - £15.

Onyx is superb and lasts very well, but edges up to the £45-50 mark - the same with Carbon.

Personally, I would look out for some SuperNatural. There are different sized pots out there, ranging from circa £15-£100.

After trialling through DW for a good few hours, I've noticed that most people are suggesting using a sealant on a silver car instead of a wax as a wax tends to dull the paint.

There's much praise for the Werkstat Acrylic Kit for silver cars. Seems easy to use and it's got everything needed including applicator pad, towels etc which is just what I want
Any opinions on it? I know JD recommended the Caranuba Jet on page 1.

Thanks again

Jeffs stuff is great. The acryllic is good for flake pop, the Carnauba is better for flat colours, like mine. Not Jeffs, but a Carnauba sealant on mine;

The first two are the same, just larger tins. The 845 is the one to go for. Better looking. Great Winter wax, or all round the year if you can't reapply protection at twice monthly intervals.
