Automatic door locking.

When im driving the doors automatically lock. Now there is a switch just by where the cd or cassette player is that you can press to unlock the doors but once youve moved away from being stationary it locks again. Is there anyway that you can stop it from doing that and leave the doors unlocked all the time while you are driving??

Thanks

At first I didnt have my autolocking activated, but I activated it myself last week (doing what clio_chris says).

Question: if you have a crash, does the system automatically unlock the doors to allow any rescuers to open the doors to get you out? Bit of a morbid question, sorry. Its the only thing that concerns me about the system.

my old one used to lock auto and i hated it now my new one didnt! had it a few weeks and 2 lads showed me how to turn it on! i love it mint feature

Yes!

Would think its based on RPMs same as my Clifford so as soon as you crash your likely to stall and therefore the doors will open.

Dont do what I did and shut the door with the engine running then pull the throttle cable from inside the engine bay.

You obviously end up locked out with the engine running!

LOL at Matt16v :)

Mine (reno one) doesnt seem to be based on RPM. The doors stay locked after I switch off the engine at the end of a journey. Think its speed activated, 6mph sounds familiar. Very swish feature though - everyone always asks "what was that?" when you drive off with them in the car!

NickyB - cheers! Ill keep it activated then.

I just dont trust it enough to unlock the doors in a crash. What happens if its serious enough to disconnect the battery or you end up in water and the electrics fail? I disabled mine as soon as I found out but mabe Im just paranoid!

As far as I remember it definatly unlocked the doors in an accident. Not sure what its based on but I think the failure sitaution ie no power battery fail then it unlocks. If the airbags are set of it will also unlock the doors (Im quite sure it did on mine)

the airbag computer tells the uch to unlock all the doors in the event of an accident.

Is that in reverse as well as forward? Silly question I know but Im interested as my car was going backwards when it crashed (althouth it was in third gear).

Also unlinked question I know but what is the UCH on the Mk2 2 Clio is it that box under the dash and what does it achually do?

Thanks

In the renault book, it says that the autolock does not open the doors in the event of an accident and that you activate it at your own risk. It locks the doors in forward and reverse.

if you pull the handle on the door it opens the lock anyway .

So if you were concious how hard is it to pull the door handle ? you would need to do that anyway. If unconcious how hard is it for someone outside to break the window ?

I think there should be some way for the driver to lock the windows from the inside, sick of my mates always opening the window when im f**king freezing.

Ben,

What sort of clio have you got? I think all have got the R.A.I.D. (Renault Anti Intruder Device) apart from the base authentique model.

Load of lies it will unlock the doors (been there done that) in an accident.

Automatically locks the doors in forward or reverse just get it over 6mph and ensure its activated.

the airbag computer itself along with its additional sensors can detect an impact from any angle/direction and take the nes action to ensure passenger safety. even if your going backwards when you crash the airbag computer will still detect it and tell the uch to open the doors.

the uch is a computer located underneath the fuse box on the passenger side. its controls virtually every electronic function and is also is used in other systems which also have their own computers like immobiliser, auto headlights, airbag etc

i got an authentique and if RAID is this, then my car autolocks. It also has an immobiliser, de pinned doors but no alarm.

My way of looking at this when faced with the if i crash can the doors open question is....

if I crash so seriously enough that I am unable to unlock the doors myself then its highly likely that the doors will be fecked and unable to open. If the crash is light enough that the doors can still open then I will prob be able to unlock them myself!

The point about driving into water is a fair point! When you pull the handle does that release the locks electronically or mechanically??!!

hehehe, ya gotta love how much faith and trust we have to put in electronics these days

Ive got the Billabong, so it aint the basic model. I just went out and held down my lock button and it bleeped after a while, does that mean its on now??

hmmm it will either be on or off yea, if u hit 4mph and the doors lock, its on :)

the drivers door would be a mechanical link but the others electrical. the impact of you hitting water would cause the airbag computer to tell the uch to unlock the doors well before everything filled up with water. the point of the doors locking is to stop you getting mugged whilst your in your car. the doors would unlock if you had an accident and if your that worried just turn the function off.
