Banging/knocking when braking

From the N/S wheel only. It only happens when I'm braking especially when doing so around a corner. Someone has mentioned it could be a ball-joint, however I've no idea. Any ideas? Cheers.

They're cheap mate, may aswell get both done while you're at it!

I wouldn't know what they're like to fit, Birchdown did mine when it was in getting all sorts done.

How would I check for a worn balljoint?

Are they easy to replace? Expensive? Ta!

Jack your car so the wheels just off the floor. Grab the wheel at 12 clock & 6 clock position. Rock the wheel. If there is excessive movement it could mean a fucked ball joint.

Have a look at the balljoint first, visual check, look for busted rubber, grease escaping, oily/ wet substances around the balljoint where it was leaking for awhile. do the 12 to 6 check and the 3-9, listen and feel for knocking, jam a pry bar in if you can and prise it up and down, look or excessive movement and knocks. replace both. im going to do mine soon both, ive no knocking but ive seen failed balljoints, wheel falls in on itself.

Cheers all, I'll definitely be getting a pair of these as a precaution. Where is best to get them from, and are they relatively easy to fit? I'm up for new challanges :)

Very easy to fit, jack car up remove both wheels undo pinch bolt split joint (pull it out the hub ) undo two bolts securing ball joint to wishbone and remove . same to refit..;)

I got a couple of ball joints from that NWP for £28 posted http://www.northwestperformance.co....ucts_id=197&osCsid=cg7gf0cu0nanv7q522nai9crr5

Or these from ECP and come highly recommended on here and is what i shall be fitting next time..http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/R...7fe69d97be5257488454c37ac9a6bd29ee15b6&000019

ECP it is, my mate gets a hefty discount there ;)

Thanks a lot mate, will get some ordered and hopefully fitted asap.
