Battery & Induction

  180.5 bhp 172
Evening all,

I have to replace my Battery very very shortly.
On the other hand, i have been looking for the best solution for the air feed on my CDA.

Now, I was hoping i could kill 2 birds with 1 stone and use a Race battery, lay it down on its side and have more space to route my CAF?
I know a lot of people say its not worth the money, but I need to buy a new battery anyway.

Will this work? I use my car daily, its not stripped out etc, so will that be a problem for a race battery?

I'm after something with minimal electrical changes, so anything you'd recommend that would use the standard battery connections?

Thanks :)

Race bats are alright but not always for dailys. Can struggle in cold temps etc. Bosch s3/s4 are like £35 from eurocar parts or race batteries are more like £150. You pay your monies and all that

The ones I have been looking at are on eBay for 75/80 quid.

Do they do a slim but standard power batt that would be better and cheaper than a race batt that would still be ok for a daily? Even if I can make a bit more space for the CAF to get to the headlight that would be fine!

Not at that price you won't, size will reduce the maximum cranking power. What induction setup do you have?

Ive got a race battery in my mk1 and its starting the car ok at the moment despite it being cold. Not had it long so cant tell you how long it will last.

Ive got one of these:

I previously tried one of these and it wasnt upto the job at all really as it couldnt cope if you went to pull away and stalled it a couple of times or just moved the car a few hundred yards between stopping and starting etc, ie it needs time to recharge each time you start a car with it as its capacity is so small:

I've got an Odyssey extreme racing 25 in my daily 182 and its fine. You notice it turning over slower when its <3c but it always starts fine.

Its a BMC CDA. Awesome kit, but the CAF I have at the moment is sat right behind the radiator so its sucking in lovely warm air!!
Plus the cardboard flexi hose is cr@p!!

Going to sort some steel pipe and Samco hose to fix it up a bit, but its so tight for space in there with the battery where it is.

You say that but look at my setup and it fits, I'm sure you could get it to work for you!

Sorry, I missed that!

I had a look at my engine bay and there doesn't seem to be anywhere near that amount of space to get it at that angle?? I'll upload a picture tomorrow.

Also Chris, where did you get those bends?

As chip said there are two types of battery, 075 and 063, you need the 063. If you look on the battery it will tell you. However most places sell new 063 batteries for £35-40.
