Best Earth

Hey guys,

can you tell where is the best place to earth my amps on a mk2?

getting alt. feedback and need to sort it out.

cheers.

where is it mounted at the moment? there is an earth point below the rear light, IIRC if you remove the trim on the boot lip (where the lid meets the boot) pull the carpet back there is an easy place to earth.

You could drill a whole into the boot floor (as long as your carefull where)

how long is your earth?

my amps are screwed to the back of the rear seats at the mo.

There is plenty of earth cable left.

Dont think i will do the drilling thing....i dont trust myself and sods law says i will do a lot of damage.

ok, you dont want a long earth cable, and keep it (and the 12v) away from your rca cables.

You could try earthing to the bolt that goes through the lugage bar (although put the ring terminal under the luage bar)

are you talking about the bolts for the rear springs here???

no, there is a bar that runs across the base if the boot, to stop anything in the boot hitting the seats under breaking. and it bolts into the boot.

i not sure how great a point this is to earth, try it in the other place i sugested and see if that imporves things

Its worked fine for me for a year and ahalf so far and you cant see it at all with my false floor hiding it so im happy. Also used same point on 3D CLIO and ARMotorsports cars. But general rule of thumb is bare metal is the best place!

what i did with mine was remove one of the rear clusters, drill a hole through the bodywork, attach wire brush attachment onto drill, remove some paint, bolt the earth in through the hole, refit light cluster

ive got 2 amps earthed to there and i have no ground loop problems

just wanted to make sure.
i put my earth to the seat belt bolt, didnt think that a suspention bolt would be a good idea for an earth

cheers guys for all the suggestions.

Gonna try the luggauge bar one tomorrow and see if the alt. feedback goes.

sorted it finally!!

Initially i had the phonos down the same side as the power. I was told its fine so long as i have a good earth. No matter where i put the earth (and its been done many many time, to many many places).

In the end i thought ill spend some time to take the dash off and re-wire the retched thing on either side.

Result??

SORTED! so happy now....no more annoying alt. feedback!!

i love breaking the rules of car audio

but yeah its usually something silly like that

yeah, but now i need to sort out one last problem.

My rocky monoblock (500bd) is starting to whine. Apparently this is quite common on the older monoblocks. However, there were no problems before. just came out of the blue. Nothing messed with prior to that...honest!

breaking the rules? its a standard rule, power cables cause interferance on rca cable
