Biggest alloys to fit on the mk1 clio

Im looking at getting a set of alloys soon. I know that 15s are the biggest that fit on without any work but what work is required for 16s or 17s? Im getting a student loan and intend on blowing it all on my car, along with my student overdraft and anything else i can find! hehe :D

19s on a Valver at Trax.. Hehe.

I have 195/50/15 and it required work on Valver Alloys.. had to grind some arch lips and such.. the inner arch is the main problem!

16s go on, 17s go on.. all depending on the offset..

you would need the arches rolled which is quite a lot of work but worth it if thats what you want to do

i have an RT and stuck to 15s but i want to change them to 17s eventually

it isnt too bad if you have standard bumpers and havent lowered it much but if you go for it big style it does need some arch mods

i fitted 17s on my RT wit standard archs and it was fine!

but ive got valver wings goin on now so u could prob go 19s wit those!

Whats the offset mean? I still dont quite know what it means  how will i know what offset ill need? Mines a mk1 clio rt 1995, dunno what phase that is or if it even makes any difference!

How much would the arch work cost for 16s and what exactly is involved and who could do it? Id rather have 17s but theyre very expensive!

17s dont go straight on normally unless you have standard suspension which i wouldnt of thought you would have if you are gettin rims!

did you have to do that to get 15s on Daz mine went straight on how odd!

Fine, until you go round corners, go over bumps..

My 15s were perfect, until I went over bad bumps, had people in the car or went round a corner with a slight bump at any speed..

Inside the arch, theres a lip.. and it will catch, if you have an offset which fills the arch fully.. heh.

i took the sh*te shields out cos mine were shredded where i went round sharp corners lol!

was quite amusing when they came off!

Ive grinding my arch like mad - just got 15s..

17s usually catch on the bumper mount.. and the lip.. and the outer arch lip.. and the bumper.. heh, everywhere..

good luck to you then al! lol! ;)

they look wicked on tho spesh with it dropped 60 mm or about that cos it sits on the rim at the back and looks wicked so good luck matey!

what else you done to your car or is this your first mod?

we are helpin you matey! well i am but you know what that alex is like! lol

so you going to try 16s? i suggest if you do that to make your life easier get 7js (width) cos you might get away with it but any more and you aint really got any chance without big probs and having to sort it out

just to save you hassle!

so i can get 16x7s? without having to do any work? cool. will i need to be changing suspension and lowering and all that first? as all that looks pretty expensive. although i can buy stuff and have em fitted for free with my brother being a mechanic :) ill definately go for 16s if i can afford em and get em fitted properly. although i wouldve liked to go for 17s ;)

I had to do work on my Valver alloys with 195/50/15.. it all depends on the offset - my alloys really fill the arch.. so it was catching on the inner arch bit.

the son of the owner of the garrage where i bought my rt from (mouthful) also had a 1.4rt 94, he has put 17s no his. he has rolled the arches put new springs + shocks on it n done alot of filing away. they just about fit, but as soon as he has ppl in the back or goes round a corner or has full lock on it rubs and scrapes like a b**ch!!! fukin well irritatin. its ok 2up but dont be doin now 3 point turns. jus save urself sum money n get a set of 16s or spend the extra money on insurance on a valver...thats my intention next year :)

the standard offset is 36............most aftermarket alloys you can get come in 38 so that would be fine

iv got 16 x 6.5, bit tight as it was lowered today but seriously any wider and ull prob have problems. may arches are totally ground back!!

patty

cant say i have ever seen 6.5 but if you can get them get them but i think thats only on a select few rims so go for 7s if not but no more if poss

Daz you prob had more trouble cos they aint low profiles im guessing so you shouldnt have that prob Audin_RT

hope you get on alright matey!

vix ;)

BTW you will prob want to lower it cos it looks funny without and looks like its flyin high you can go 35mm on an RT or more if you want but prob wont need to with 16s

lol 19s i wish! Unfortunately those extra few inches cost a hell of alot! :( probably be a few months before i get any. need to get some money in after its just cost me 300 quid to fix my car, if i ever knock another kid over i swear itll be me who kills him not the car! lol

lol sorry, ive just had annoying run ins with kids running/riding out and hitting my car and being totally unscathed while my car suffers damage, its a little bit irritating

they have been done quite a few times but i personally dont like it it makes the car too high prefer it to be on the floor but personal taste!

got 7x18 teamdynamics motorsports 215,35s on my rsi 40mm springs on the front and adjusted torsion bars. removed the arch liners and trimmed the return edges off the bumpers and front wings cant carry anyone in the back but could if it was raised up a bit. only catches over big bumps or full lock these went on easier than my old 17s cause there 38mm offset. get the right tyre and theyll not catch on the rear my tyres are very square shaped (if you get what i mean) i think falkens are the ones to get.

lol must be uncomfortable then!! hehe just kiddin!

cool its weird how some ppl have trouble and others dont i think it does very much depend on the tyre and the profile (how low profile they are)

i have 17s on my rt, 205/40/17 they fit fine and with just me in the car no probs whatso ever, if i have 2 people and i go over a big bump or dip fast then i get a bit of scrubbing, which comes from the rear bumper mount on the drivers side, but a bit of grinding will sort it, im just to lazy atm.

but my car will be having some seriose work done on the back end around christmas time, and i will be getting rid of my 17s and going for some 18" lenso spinners.

my wheels atm are a 42 offset.

40 is the smallest profile you can get on 16s int it?
yeah about that i think then they go smaller the bigger the rim mine are 45s i think cos they are 15s so should be about right
